The 2024 Tesla Model 3 is a meaningful refinement, not a clean-sheet redesign. Its quieter cabin, smoother ride and upgraded interior address weaknesses noted in earlier versions, while quick electric response and composed handling remain central strengths. Whether it is worth buying depends on which trim and wheels you choose, how you use the touchscreen-led controls, and whether the specific car’s price and condition make sense.
What changed in the 2024 Model 3 refresh?
The 2024 update, commonly called Highland, focuses on refinement and cabin details. Consumer Reports describes its Long Range AWD review vehicle as having a quieter cabin, improved interior materials, a smoother ride and an 8-inch rear climate and infotainment touchscreen. These are road-test impressions from Consumer Reports’ test vehicle, which it purchased through Tesla’s online process for its test program.

MotorTrend also reported revised suspension components and substantial reductions in road and wind noise during an early first drive. Its Long Range AWD vehicle was a Shanghai-built prototype on tires not offered in the U.S. production configuration, so those impressions should not be treated as measurements of every retail car.
Ride, noise and handling
The most notable change in the independent descriptions is a more settled ride and less cabin noise. That does not establish that the car is silent or equivalent to a luxury sedan; it indicates an improvement over the older Model 3’s refinement. Testers continue to describe the car as responsive and composed, but those are subjective driving impressions rather than guarantees for every trim, tire or road.

Cabin and controls
The refreshed cabin adds an 8-inch rear passenger touchscreen and revised interior materials, while retaining a minimalist, center-screen-led layout. The interface also changes familiar steering-column controls and puts more operation on the touchscreen. That can suit drivers who prefer a simplified cabin, but it creates a learning curve for people accustomed to conventional stalks and gear selection. Try the turn-signal and gear-selection interface on the actual car before buying; that is a personal usability check, not a conclusion about safety.
How far can a 2024 Model 3 go?
Range depends on the exact trim and configuration. For a U.S. 2024 Model 3 Long Range RWD, Car and Driver reports an EPA-certified estimate of 363 miles and recorded 310 miles in its own 75-mph highway-range test. The EPA estimate is a standardized comparison figure; the 310-mile result belongs to Car and Driver’s particular car and test protocol, not to every Model 3 or every highway trip.
EPA explains that adjusted combined range calculations weight city driving at 55% and highway driving at 45%: EPA fuel-economy test schedules and range methodology. That estimate helps compare vehicles on a common basis, but sustained high speeds, cold or hot weather, elevation changes, tires and wheels, and other conditions affect real driving range.

Use the correct figure for the exact car
Do not apply the 363-mile EPA estimate to other trims or wheel packages. For a used 2024 car, check its original Monroney label or the EPA listing for that particular configuration. Current Tesla specifications describe current offerings and should not be substituted for historical 2024 model-year ratings.
For trip planning, use the car’s displayed energy use and a conservative estimate rather than assuming the EPA number is available on every drive. Tesla’s owner manual explains that uphill travel and other conditions affect range, and describes scheduled charging and preconditioning: Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual. Charger type, starting and ending charge, speed, weather and route all shape a trip’s charging needs.
Which 2024 Model 3 trim is the right fit?
Choose by the particular car’s original rating and equipment, as well as your driving needs. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive differ in traction and performance characteristics; wheel and tire packages can also affect range, ride and replacement costs. The collected figures do not establish a complete trim-by-trim range or acceleration comparison, so verify those details for the VIN or original listing rather than extrapolating from the Long Range RWD test.

How does it compare with the pre-refresh Model 3?
The case for the 2024 refresh is strongest if the older car’s cabin noise, ride or interior details have bothered you. The updated model improves those areas in independent road-test descriptions and adds the rear touchscreen, but it does not abandon the familiar quick, composed electric-sedan character. Whether the improvement justifies a price difference depends on the actual cars being considered; there is no single representative used-market price or price gap established here.

Inspect the specific vehicle
- Check the VIN for open recalls and remedy status using NHTSA’s recall lookup or Tesla. Recall information can vary by vehicle and change over time.
- Review tire condition, wheel configuration, software status and warranty documentation for that car. Any replacement tire must match the vehicle’s door-jamb or certification labels and wheel configuration.
- Confirm cold tire pressure using the recommended value shown in the car and the vehicle’s labels. Tesla’s 2024-and-later owner manual describes tire-pressure checks and routine items such as tires, wipers and filters.
- Compare the car’s original equipment and EPA listing with the seller’s description; do not assume all 2024 Model 3s share the same assembly origin or specification.
NHTSA’s MY2024 AALA table lists U.S./Canadian content of 75% for Model 3 Performance, 40% for Model 3 RWD and 35% for Model 3 Long Range, with origin and assembly details varying by trim: NHTSA American Automobile Labeling Act reports. Those percentages describe the table’s content measure; they do not mean every car came from the same plant.
Is the 2024 Tesla Model 3 worth buying?
It is a compelling option for a buyer who wants a responsive electric sedan and values the quieter cabin, smoother ride and upgraded interior described in tests of the refresh. The trade-offs are a touchscreen-heavy control scheme, configuration-specific range and the need to check the exact vehicle rather than rely on a generic model-year claim. Test-drive the controls and ride, verify the trim’s original range rating, and inspect the VIN, condition and tires before deciding.
