There was no factory-built 2024 Chevrolet K5 Blazer or production GMC Jimmy revival. The vehicles creating that impression are highly finished aftermarket projects: Ringbrothers’ TUKA, a restomod based on a 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer and unveiled at the 2024 SEMA Show, and Flat Out Autos’ Sierra-based modern GMC Jimmy conversions.
Both preserve enough original GM design language—and use enough GM hardware—to look like products General Motors could have sold. But they are custom builds, not official 2024 Chevrolet or GMC models.

Two different builds are behind the “2024 K5 Blazer and Jimmy” idea
The Chevrolet and GMC projects are often discussed together because the original full-size Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy were closely related truck-based SUVs. Chevrolet introduced the full-size Blazer line in 1969, followed by the GMC Jimmy in 1970. That distinction matters. Calling TUKA a “2024 Chevy K5 Blazer” suggests a current Chevrolet model year, when the documented base vehicle is a 1972 K5 Blazer. Likewise, calling Flat Out’s conversion a new GMC Jimmy suggests a factory product, although it is a professionally engineered custom conversion.
Ringbrothers TUKA is a 1972 K5 Blazer transformed for 2024
Ringbrothers unveiled TUKA in the Gentex booth at the 2024 SEMA Show. Gentex’s announcement identifies it as a 1972 Chevrolet Blazer, while the published build specifications describe a project that took more than 3,700 hours to complete. That is not a lightly restored classic; it is a modern restomod with a deliberately recognizable K5 silhouette.
The bodywork explains much of the factory-like appearance. Ringbrothers raised the tailgate and rear box sides by two inches so those lines aligned more cleanly with the doors. The builder fabricated a fiberglass rear top, integrated a panoramic roof from a modern Chevrolet Blazer, and fitted contemporary Jeep Wrangler rear glass. The finish is described as BASF Glasurit Galactic Black.

TUKA uses GM power, but it is not mechanically stock

So “GM-powered” is accurate, but “all-GM” is not. TUKA combines a GM Performance LS3, GM-pattern automatic transmission, and NP208 transfer case with Toyota-derived chassis elements, Jeep glass, aftermarket suspension hardware, and extensive Ringbrothers fabrication.

That mixture is typical of a serious restomod. Builders select components for packaging, strength, suspension geometry, braking, parts support, and driving behavior rather than trying to preserve every original component. The result can look like a modern factory SUV while using a combination of donor parts that no production Chevrolet ever used together.
Flat Out Autos’ GMC Jimmy starts with a current Sierra
Flat Out Autos takes the opposite route from Ringbrothers. Instead of modernizing a 1972 SUV, the Arkansas builder converts a current GMC Sierra pickup into a two-door SUV intended to recall the full-size Jimmy.
The builder’s GMC Jimmy and K5 Silverado project page identifies the original vehicle as a “SEMA 2022 GMC Jimmy Conversion” and lists later builds, including 2022, 2023, and 2024 Jimmy examples. The same page also lists a 2024 retro K5 Silverado, showing that the company’s work is a continuing conversion program rather than one isolated show vehicle.
The modern Jimmy conversion uses a Sierra donor and changes the truck into a two-door SUV. Documented features include:
- A removable roof.
- Rear seating in place of the original pickup-bed arrangement.
- A roll bar.
- Sierra-based chassis and running gear.
- GMC Sierra AT4- and AT4X-related front-end components.
- A truck-derived MultiPro tailgate.
Unlike a speculative rendering, this approach begins with a current, serviceable GMC truck. That gives the conversion modern underpinnings, electronics, powertrain choices, and safety equipment from the donor vehicle, while the body conversion supplies the classic two-door SUV identity.

Why the Jimmy looks like a genuine GMC product
Flat Out Autos’ design works because it does not attempt to reinvent the entire Sierra. The front end retains recognizable GMC truck cues, while the shortened two-door body and removable roof restore the proportions associated with the historic Jimmy. The rear utility hardware reinforces the truck-based SUV connection instead of making the vehicle look like a generic crossover.
This is a conservative strategy in the best design sense: preserve the cues that make the nameplate recognizable, then update the areas where a modern owner expects improvement. The conversion does not need a new corporate grille, a radical lighting signature, or an unrelated interior theme. Its credibility comes from the way familiar GMC parts are integrated into a different body configuration.
The same principle explains TUKA’s success. Ringbrothers updated the suspension, glass, roof, interior, and powertrain, but kept the K5’s long hood, upright cabin, removable-top character, and pickup-derived stance. In both cases, recognition comes from proportion and details—not simply from attaching a vintage badge to a modern vehicle.
What “genuine GM” does and does not mean here

- Manufactured by General Motors: No, based on the available evidence.
- Official 2024 production model: No. The evidence supports custom builds and conversions, not a factory revival.

A professionally finished vehicle displayed in a branded booth, photographed with a detailed specification sheet, and assembled with high-end suppliers can look indistinguishable from a manufacturer concept or limited-production model.
