The 2024 Lexus TX came in two electrified versions, and they are not the same kind of hybrid: the TX 500h is a conventional hybrid that does not plug in, while the TX 550h+ is a plug-in hybrid with a manufacturer-projected 33-mile electric range. The gasoline-only TX 350 is a separate powertrain. The specifications below are Lexus U.S. figures, not independent test results.
How the 2024 TX powertrains differ
Lexus designed the TX for North America. Its three powertrains include two electrified models and one gasoline-only model. The TX 500h and TX 550h+ also differ in engine, charging, output, and available grade.

Lexus locates the TX 500h’s nickel-metal-hydride hybrid battery beneath the second row. The TX 550h+’s lithium-ion battery sits under the floor, outside the cabin. Lexus specified towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds for all three powertrains.
TX 500h vs. TX 550h+: which one plugs in?
TX 500h: conventional hybrid
The TX 500h cannot be plugged in. Its turbocharged engine and hybrid system work together, but the driver does not charge the battery from an outlet. That makes it the electrified TX option for buyers who want a hybrid powertrain without planning around charging.

TX 550h+: plug-in hybrid
The TX 550h+ can use externally charged electricity for driving, as well as operate as a hybrid. Lexus projected an electric driving range of 33 miles for this model. That is a manufacturer projection, not an independently measured result or a guarantee of the distance any particular driver will achieve.
How to charge the TX 550h+
Lexus says the 2024 TX 550h+ includes a Level 1 charging cable for a 120-volt outlet and uses a J1772 charging socket. A Level 2 home charger is optional, not required. With maximum 240-volt Level 2 charging and the standard 7-kW onboard charger, Lexus estimates a full charge at approximately three hours under ideal conditions. Actual charging time can vary, so treat that figure as an estimate rather than a promise.

If you are comparing the two electrified models, access to charging is a practical dividing line: the 500h does not plug in, while the 550h+ can make use of a home or public J1772 charger. The 550h+ can still be charged using its included Level 1 cable if you do not install a Level 2 charger.

These systems support the driver; they do not make the TX an autonomous vehicle. Lexus also listed Advanced Park and Traffic Jam Assist as available features. Lexus described Traffic Jam Assist as requiring an active Drive Connect trial or subscription and operating on limited-access roadways in condensed, low-speed traffic.
Recall check for a specific 2024 TX
A June 20, 2024 Lexus noncompliance recall notice described a risk that the driver’s curtain shield airbag may not deploy as intended in certain crashes if the driver’s window is rolled down. The notice covered certain 2024 TX 350, TX 500h, and TX 550h+ vehicles from defined production periods and estimated approximately 33,600 vehicles across the listed models. That estimate is not the number of vehicles currently unrepaired.

The notice said the remedy was still being developed at the time it was issued; that historical status does not establish the remedy or recall status today. Not every 2024 TX is necessarily affected. Before buying or making a service decision, check the vehicle’s VIN using the NHTSA recall lookup or contact Lexus.

Lexus’s 2023/2024 model-year announcement provides the powertrain outputs and up-to-5,000-pound towing specification. Its 2023 launch announcement gives the TX 550h+’s projected 33-mile electric range. These are manufacturer specifications and projections; they should not be read as independent road-test findings.
