The U.S.-market 2024 Lexus GX pairs standard full-time four-wheel drive with a luxury-focused cabin and a choice of six grades. The trail-oriented Overtrail and Overtrail+ add standard 33-inch all-terrain tires, 18-inch wheels, an electronic locking rear differential and E-KDSS. Those are Lexus specifications; they are not independent evidence of how the GX performs on a trail.
What powers the 2024 GX?
Lexus specifies a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Lexus also lists an EPA-estimated 21 mpg on the highway. That figure is a highway estimate, not combined fuel economy or a real-world result. These specifications appear in Lexus’s December 13, 2023 U.S. launch release.
Full-time four-wheel drive and a Torsen limited-slip locking center differential are standard across the lineup, according to Lexus’s June 8, 2023 U.S. announcement. That common hardware is distinct from Overtrail’s additional rear differential and suspension equipment.
What makes Overtrail different?
Overtrail and Overtrail+ are the GX grades with Lexus’s specific trail-focused equipment. Lexus lists standard 33-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, and E-KDSS, or Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System.

Lexus says E-KDSS can lock or unlock the stabilizer bars and describes the system as balancing off-road drivability with on-road handling stability. That is the manufacturer’s stated purpose, not an independently measured result. Buyers considering replacement tires should verify the exact size, load rating, wheel fitment and vehicle requirements before purchasing.
How do the six U.S. grades compare?
Lexus’s U.S. launch lineup comprised Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail and Overtrail+. The broad distinction is that Overtrail grades receive the dedicated equipment above, while the other grades share the standard full-time four-wheel-drive system. The launch material also identifies comfort and technology offerings across the range, but exact grade-by-grade equipment should be checked against the 2024 GX brochure when comparing a particular vehicle.

What luxury and technology equipment does Lexus cite?
Lexus’s December 2023 launch release lists Safety System+ 3.0 and a 14-inch Lexus Interface multimedia touchscreen as standard equipment. It also describes semi-aniline leather and NuLuxe interior trim options in Black, Dapple Gray or Saddle Tan, with specified trim finishes. These are equipment and upholstery descriptions; they do not establish a particular comfort or material-quality judgment.
How much can the 2024 GX tow?
Lexus’s later U.S. release, dated December 13, 2023, lists maximum towing capacity of up to 9,063 pounds for Premium and Premium+ and up to 9,096 pounds for Overtrail when equipped with the standard tow hitch. These are manufacturer figures and should be matched to the grade, hitch and vehicle documentation.

Lexus’s earlier June 8, 2023 announcement gave preliminary towing capacity of up to 8,000 pounds for Premium, Premium+ and Overtrail. That earlier preliminary figure was superseded for the grades and hitch configuration specified in the December release; it should not be combined with the later numbers as though it were one capacity range.

The published equipment makes the Overtrail branch easy to distinguish: it adds specific tire, wheel, rear-differential and suspension hardware to a lineup that already has full-time four-wheel drive. Lexus’s launch materials also document the V6 output, towing figures, cabin choices and standard technology.
