The driving impressions cited here come from different versions, so they are not one uniform test: Car and Driver measured a six-cylinder 110X on a highway route, while J.D. Power drove an optioned 110 SE on pavement and did not take it off-road.
What is the 2024 Defender 110?
The Defender 110 is the four-door member of Land Rover’s Defender family. For the U.S. 2024 lineup, Land Rover listed S, SE, X-Dynamic SE, X, V8 and Carpathian Edition configurations. Engines, seating, equipment and prices depend on the specific version and options, so “Defender 110” alone does not identify one exact vehicle. How does the Defender 110 drive on the road?
Car and Driver’s review presents the Defender as unusually capable off pavement without the unrefined road manners often associated with traditional off-roaders. Its assessment is that errands and road trips remain appealing, while the cabin mixes premium and utilitarian design cues. The publication also notes the Pivi Pro touchscreen interface. These are that outlet’s impressions, not a guarantee of how every driver will experience every trim or wheel-and-suspension combination.
J.D. Power’s manufacturer-provided test vehicle was a 2024 Defender 110 SE equipped with adaptive air suspension, 22-inch wheels, towing and comfort/convenience equipment, and a head-up display. The reviewer described it as smooth and said it handled commendably. That test was limited to pavement: the reviewer explicitly said fire danger and heat prevented off-road driving. Its road impressions should not be mistaken for a trail test or generalized to every 110 configuration.

How capable is it off-road?
Land Rover’s 2024 technical specification lists up to 900 mm of wading depth for the Defender 110 with air suspension, compared with 850 mm with coil suspension. With air suspension, the listed maximum approach angle is up to 37.6 degrees and departure angle up to 41.9 degrees. Those are manufacturer figures subject to equipment and configuration caveats, not assurances that every vehicle can safely manage any crossing or obstacle.
For the technical details and measurement qualifications, consult Land Rover’s 2024 Defender technical specification. The figures apply to particular setups; optional equipment can affect dimensions and weight. Drivers still need to assess water depth, terrain, weather and vehicle loading rather than treating a maximum specification as a recommended limit.

What is the Defender 110’s fuel economy?
Fuel use is a meaningful ownership trade-off. Car and Driver recorded 18 mpg for a six-cylinder Defender 110X on its 75-mph highway test route. That is the result of that specific vehicle and test protocol, not a predicted average for every 110 or a promise of what an owner will see. J.D. Power evaluated a separate V8 vehicle on its own evaluation loop; those results are not directly interchangeable with the 110X highway figure.
How much cargo space does the 110 have?
Capacity depends on whether the vehicle has five seats or five-plus-two seating. Land Rover’s 2024 specification gives maximum dry loadspace volumes as follows. Its dry measurements use VDA-compliant blocks; they should not be compared directly with the manufacturer’s “wet” capacity, which uses a simulated liquid-fill method.

The third row is unavailable on P400e and V8 versions according to Land Rover’s technical insert, and availability also depends on pack and engine. The vehicle’s actual usable space will depend on its configuration and how cargo is packed. If the cabin is not enough for a particular trip, a roof-top cargo carrier is one possible accessory route; verify vehicle-specific fitment and roof load limits before buying or loading one. Land Rover notes that added accessories affect payload, so a carrier does not increase the vehicle’s rated payload.

J.D. Power reported a base price of $94,775 for its 2024 Defender 110 SE review vehicle and an as-tested total of $108,263, including a stated $1,475 destination charge. The total reflects that specific vehicle’s options and the review’s model-year context; it is not a current asking price or a quote for every SE. Equipment can materially change the price, so compare the actual configuration and included options when evaluating a vehicle.

The available evidence supports the Defender 110’s blend of on-road usability and substantial off-road specifications, but it does not establish a matched comparison against rival SUVs. A fair comparison would need similar testing for ride and noise, off-road equipment and geometry, fuel economy protocol, cargo space behind the second row, third-row availability and total price with equivalent options.
