The US-market 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce is a 285-hp plug-in-hybrid compact crossover with standard Q4 all-wheel drive. Its defining Veloce upgrade is adaptive dual-stage valve suspension—not AWD or Brembo brakes, which are standard across the US Tonale trim lineup. Stellantis reported 33 miles of EPA electric range, but that figure is a rating, not a guarantee of what every used example will deliver.
What makes the 2024 Tonale Veloce different?
For the US 2024 model year, the Tonale is a plug-in hybrid rather than one of the other engine configurations offered in some global markets. The Veloce combines the lineup’s standard Q4 AWD with chassis and equipment details that distinguish it from Sprint and Ti.
Powertrain and chassis
The official model-year feature sheet lists a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 15.5-kWh battery and a 90-kW rear electric motor. The system is rated at 285 hp and 347 lb-ft, with a six-speed automatic transmission. Q4 AWD is standard on Sprint, Ti and Veloce, so it is not a Veloce-exclusive feature. Alfa Romeo’s 2024 US feature sheet identifies adaptive dual-stage valve suspension and paddle shifters as standard on Veloce. It also lists a four-piston Brembo four-wheel disc brake system as standard on all three trims.
Cabin and wheels
The feature sheet lists Alcantara seats as standard on Veloce; leather eight-way driver and front-passenger seats are optional. Standard wheels are 19 inches, with 20-inch wheels available. Check the specific car’s window sticker and equipment: installed options and packages mean not every Veloce has identical seat trim or equipment.

Tonale Veloce electric range: what the ratings mean
Stellantis reported official EPA figures of 33 miles of electric range, 77 MPGe and 29 mpg combined for the Tonale, along with a stated total range of 360 miles. These are manufacturer-reported official EPA figures, not a promise that an individual used vehicle will achieve them. Actual electric distance can vary with conditions and use. Stellantis described the battery as powering the rear motor and the 1.3-liter engine as producing 180 hp, with 285 hp total system output. The manufacturer announcement includes the EPA figures.
Car and Driver reported 32 electric miles in its 75-mph highway range test, then 29 mpg in its highway fuel-economy test after the battery was depleted. Those are results from that publication’s test, not EPA ratings or universal owner results. They give a separate highway-test reference point rather than a guarantee for daily driving. Car and Driver’s Tonale test describes its test conditions.

Driving, practicality and the Veloce’s fit
The Veloce is most compelling for a buyer who can charge regularly, wants a plug-in hybrid’s electric-driving capability for shorter trips, and values its adaptive suspension and AWD. If routine charging is not practical, the plug-in system’s electric-range advantage is less useful; assess the car as a crossover you may often drive with a depleted battery rather than assuming every trip will be electric.
For cargo context, CARFAX lists 22.9 cubic feet behind the second row and 50.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, describing capacity as about average for the class. Standard AWD does not make the Tonale a rugged off-roader. CARFAX’s model overview is the source for those capacity figures.

Tonale Veloce reliability and recall checks
The available evidence does not establish a reliability score or support a broad claim that the Veloce is dependable or unreliable. For a used example, focus on the individual vehicle’s service and ownership history, operation of its plug-in-hybrid systems, and whether applicable safety recalls have been completed.
Brake pedal recall: check VIN and repair status
NHTSA report 25V-846 covers certain 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonales whose brake pedal assembly may collapse while braking, potentially preventing activation of the service brakes. The report identifies a suspect production period from February 23, 2023, through February 14, 2024, and lists 3,286 affected vehicles. That does not mean every 2024 Tonale is affected. Look up the specific VIN with NHTSA or an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer and confirm whether any required repair has been completed. NHTSA’s Part 573 report 25V-846 provides the recall details.

Tire placard recall: verify remedy completion
A separate notice concerns certain 2023 and 2024 Tonales with a tire placard that may give an incorrect maximum vehicle capacity weight. Relying on an incorrect capacity value can lead to overloading and a crash. Check the VIN and confirm remedy completion rather than assuming the car is included or repaired. NHTSA’s 24V-175 notice explains the issue.
Other checks before buying
- Confirm the VIN, service records and vehicle history, and compare the car’s installed equipment with its original window sticker.
- Test that the vehicle charges and operates in electric and hybrid modes; inspect the charging equipment and ask about any known battery or charging-system service.
- Check tire condition and wear, especially if the vehicle has optional 20-inch wheels, and confirm the correct tire-pressure and capacity information is present.
- Evaluate it on the kinds of roads you use. AWD is useful for traction, but the Tonale is not an off-road-focused vehicle.
Is the Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce worth buying used?
It can make sense if you want a compact AWD plug-in hybrid, can charge routinely, and specifically value the Veloce’s adaptive suspension and equipment. Consider another option if you rarely have access to charging, need notably more cargo space, or are choosing primarily on the basis of an unverified reliability ranking. Compare actual asking prices for vehicles with similar mileage, condition, location and history: the Veloce’s $47,495 US launch MSRP, announced in January 2023, was before a $1,595 destination charge and is historical context, not a 2026 used-car valuation. Stellantis’ launch pricing announcement also listed Ti at $44,995 and Sprint at $42,995 before destination.
