The 2023 Honda CB750 Hornet makes more peak power and torque on the figures reported by the comparison source, while the Yamaha MT-07 is lighter in that source’s kerb-weight comparison and has a lower listed fuel-consumption figure. The Hornet also comes with more rider aids in the cited comparison; the MT-07 has a lower seat and a published US fuel-economy estimate of 58 mpg. Neither is a universal winner: market-specific specifications, fit, price and local availability matter.
At a glance: the published figures
The figures below come from different sources and markets, so treat them as a guide rather than a perfectly controlled, same-version comparison. 1000PS supplies the direct-comparison figures; Yamaha’s US specifications and Honda’s Spanish-market press material provide additional manufacturer figures.
| Specification | 2023 Honda CB750 Hornet | 2023 Yamaha MT-07 |
|---|---|---|
| Engine displacement | 755cc (Honda Spanish-market press material: Honda News) | 689cc (Yamaha US specifications: Yamaha Motor USA) |
| Peak output | 67.5 kW at 9,500 rpm and 75 Nm at 7,250 rpm in Honda’s Spanish-market press material; 1000PS reports 92 hp and 75 Nm | 1000PS reports 73.4 hp and 67 Nm |
| Seat height | 795 mm (1000PS comparison) | 805 mm (1000PS comparison); Yamaha’s US page lists 31.7 inches |
| Weight | 190 kg kerb weight (1000PS comparison) | 184 kg kerb weight (1000PS comparison); Yamaha’s US page lists 406 lb wet, including fluids and a full tank |
| Wheelbase | 1,420 mm (1000PS comparison) | 1,400 mm (1000PS comparison); Yamaha’s US page lists 55.1 inches |
| Fuel capacity | 15.2 L (Honda Spanish-market press material) | 3.7 US gallons (Yamaha US specifications) |
| Published fuel economy | 23 km/L, or 4.35 L/100 km, in Honda Spanish-market press material; 1000PS lists about 4.3 L/100 km | 1000PS lists 4.2 L/100 km; Yamaha estimates 58 mpg for the US model |
| Suspension and brakes | Not stated in the cited comparison figures | Yamaha US specifications: 41 mm telescopic fork, 5.1 inches travel; rear shock with preload and rebound adjustment, 5.1 inches travel; dual 298 mm front discs with ABS and a 245 mm rear disc with ABS |
| Warranty | Not stated in the cited sources | One-year limited factory warranty on Yamaha’s US specifications page |
Sources: 1000PS comparison, Yamaha US specifications and Honda Spanish-market press material. Honda’s Spanish press page provides extracted specifications; its figures are attributed here to that material. The Honda output is stated in kW and Nm there, while 1000PS presents it in hp and Nm. Do not assume that differing market or version conventions make those presentations interchangeable.
Engine performance and delivery
The Hornet has the larger engine at 755cc, compared with the MT-07’s 689cc. 1000PS lists the Honda at 92 hp and 75 Nm, against 73.4 hp and 67 Nm for the Yamaha. Honda’s Spanish-market press material instead states 67.5 kW at 9,500 rpm and 75 Nm at 7,250 rpm. Because the sources present output differently, keep the source and unit with any figure rather than treating the numbers as a single market-independent specification.

The published figures make the Hornet the stronger choice on peak output. They do not, by themselves, establish which bike feels easier, smoother or more engaging in everyday riding; that depends on how the engine delivers power and on the rider’s preferences. Both are liquid-cooled, two-cylinder naked motorcycles, but the supplied figures do not support a controlled, same-condition performance test.
Rider aids, display and connectivity
In its comparison, 1000PS lists ABS, ride modes, ride-by-wire, traction control and anti-wheelie features for the Hornet. It lists ABS for the MT-07 and says the Yamaha lacks traction control. Equipment can vary by market and version, so check the specification for the exact motorcycle being considered rather than assuming this comparison describes every local model.

The available material does not establish a complete, like-for-like display and connectivity comparison. 1000PS praises the MT-07’s display, but that is the publisher’s assessment, not a comparative measurement. Confirm the local model’s instrument and phone-connectivity features with its manufacturer specification or dealer.
Weight, seat height and fit
In 1000PS’s direct comparison, the MT-07 is 6 kg lighter by the listed kerb figures: 184 kg versus 190 kg for the Hornet. The same comparison puts the Yamaha seat 10 mm higher, at 805 mm against 795 mm. Those figures point in different directions for riders choosing between low-speed manageability and the ability to reach the ground comfortably.

Weight labels are not identical across the sources. Yamaha’s US page gives the MT-07’s wet weight as 406 lb and specifies that it includes fluids and a full tank; 1000PS gives both bikes kerb weights in kilograms. Use the figures as published, not as proof of a precise cross-market weight difference.
A seat-height number cannot determine fit on its own. Seat width, suspension sag, footwear and inseam all affect how a bike feels at a stop. Sit on both motorcycles if possible, and assess starting, backing up and turning at walking pace—not just whether both feet can sit flat.

Suspension, brakes and comfort
Yamaha’s US specification lists a 41 mm telescopic fork with 5.1 inches of travel, plus a rear shock with preload and rebound adjustment and 5.1 inches of travel. It lists dual 298 mm front discs with ABS and a 245 mm rear disc with ABS. The supplied comparison does not give equivalent Hornet suspension and brake measurements, so those Yamaha details should not be read as evidence that one bike has superior hardware.
Ride impressions from 1000PS are subjective. The publisher describes the Hornet as agile and comfortable. For the MT-07, it praises easy handling and the brakes, but criticizes chassis damping, gearshift feel and seat softness on longer rides. These observations may help identify what to assess on a test ride; they are not guaranteed experiences for every rider.

Fuel capacity and economy
Honda’s Spanish-market press material gives the Hornet a 15.2 L tank and consumption of 23 km/L, equivalent to about 4.35 L/100 km. 1000PS lists roughly 4.3 L/100 km for the Hornet and 4.2 L/100 km for the MT-07. Yamaha’s US page gives a different kind of figure: an estimated 58 mpg for the MT-07.
These are published figures from different sources and potentially different test cycles, not a same-condition fuel-economy test. Yamaha explicitly labels its US figure an estimate. Do not use the small difference in the 1000PS figures to predict a real-world winner or calculate a dependable range; riding style and conditions affect consumption.
Price, market and availability
The cited prices are not a same-market comparison. Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA’s MT-07 page displayed a starting price of $8,199, plus a $450 destination charge and $300 freight surcharge when accessed in 2026. Yamaha cautions that prices and specifications can change and dealer prices may vary; verify the intended model year and configuration with a US dealer.
1000PS gives Hornet price examples of €8,890 in Austria and €8,780 in Germany. These are market-specific examples from its comparison page, not current universal prices or a direct comparison against Yamaha’s US figure. Local taxes, fees, dealer pricing, stock and model-year availability may change the purchase calculation. The cited material does not establish current used-market values or dealer availability.

- Favor the Hornet on paper if its higher listed peak output and broader rider-aid list in the 1000PS comparison are important to you. Check the exact local equipment and try the engine delivery for yourself.
- Favor the MT-07 on paper if the lighter kerb weight in the comparison, Yamaha’s US fuel-economy estimate, or its published adjustable rear shock matter more. Confirm the specification for your market.
- Make fit a deciding factor if seat reach or low-speed handling is a concern: the comparison lists the Hornet’s seat 10 mm lower, while listing the MT-07 6 kg lighter.
- Compare the real out-the-door price only after getting local quotes for the same country, model year and fee basis. The available price examples use different currencies and markets.
Neither specification sheet can settle comfort, confidence or suitability for a new rider. Consider your experience, licensing and insurance requirements, intended use and ability to manage the bike at a stop, then arrange a local test ride if possible.
