In U.S. specification, its twin-turbo V8 makes 657 hp and 627 lb-ft, and Lamborghini claims 0–62 mph in 3.5 seconds and a 190-mph top speed. The Performante is slightly quicker and lighter; the S keeps adaptive air suspension and is the more comfort-oriented choice.
What changed for the 2023 Urus S?
The S is not a mild-power version of the Performante. Both use Lamborghini’s updated V8 output, but the S emphasizes luxury and versatility. It gets revised front and rear bumper designs, new wheel and wheel-arch treatments, a hood finished to look like carbon fiber, and a retuned exhaust that Lamborghini says is more audible at startup and in every drive mode. The distinction that matters most is underneath: the S retains adaptive air suspension, while the Performante is lighter and more focused on sharper responses. The S still has serious performance hardware, including rear-wheel steering, electromechanical active roll stabilization, electronically controlled semi-active dampers and carbon-ceramic brakes. Its front discs measure 440 mm and the rear discs 370 mm, according to the 2023 Urus S brochure.
How fast is the Urus S?
The U.S.-specification 2023 Urus S has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 657 hp and 627 lb-ft. Lamborghini lists the engine at 666 CV (490 kW) in its model materials; the U.S. horsepower figure is reported by Cars.com and Car and Driver. The engine works with an eight-speed automatic and permanent all-wheel drive with active rear torque vectoring. The brochure’s performance table gives a curb weight of 2,197 kg and a power-to-weight ratio of 3.3 kg/CV. Its specifications section separately lists a homologated curb weight of 2,350 kg. These are two different brochure figures, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.
Urus S vs. Performante: what is the difference?
The two versions have nearly identical headline power, but they are tuned for different priorities. The S is the more accommodating everyday super SUV; the Performante trades some comfort emphasis for lower mass and a more performance-oriented setup.

The difference is not that the S is slow: a claimed 3.5-second sprint to 62 mph and 305 km/h top speed put it firmly in supercar territory. The Performante is the choice if marginally quicker acceleration and reduced weight take priority. For a buyer who values a more accommodating ride, extensive customization and broad daily usability, the S makes the stronger case.
Is the Urus S comfortable enough to drive every day?
The S is designed to combine high performance with everyday use, rather than asking drivers to accept a track-focused setup as the price of speed. Its adaptive air suspension works alongside semi-active dampers and active roll stabilization, while rear-wheel steering helps manage the large SUV’s responses. Lamborghini’s chairman and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, described the S as fitting alongside the Performante for buyers seeking “performance, luxury, and versatility” in the company’s launch announcement.

How practical is it, and what does a 2023 Urus S cost?
Cars.com lists a U.S. starting MSRP of $230,000 for the 2023 Urus S AWD. That is the listed starting price, not a guarantee of a particular vehicle’s transaction price or equipment. The same listing gives 14 mpg combined; Lamborghini’s brochure instead quotes 14.1 L/100 km combined under the WLTP test cycle and 320 g/km CO2. Those fuel-economy figures use different market and test-cycle conventions and are not directly interchangeable.

Should you choose the Urus S?
Choose the Urus S if you want the updated V8 performance without giving up the adaptive-air-suspension setup and luxury-focused character that make the Urus a plausible daily vehicle. Choose the Performante if reducing weight and shaving a fraction off the claimed acceleration time matter more than the S’s comfort-oriented balance. Both remain extremely fast all-wheel-drive SUVs; the decision is about which side of the performance-versatility trade-off matters more to you.
