The 2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is a rear-wheel-drive, five-seat sedan built around a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8. Its appeal is the unusual combination of four-door practicality and outsized power; the trade-offs are modest fuel economy, limited traction for the power on tap, and an interior that Car and Driver found short on polish. Output depends on version: the 2023 Hellcat Jailbreak is rated at 717 hp, while the Redeye Jailbreak is rated at 807 hp.
2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat review
Car and Driver gives the Charger SRT Hellcat a 7.5/10 rating. Its review praises the supercharged V8, roomy cabin, and handling that is more capable than the car’s straight-line image might suggest. The publication’s criticisms are plasticky interior materials, steering with little feel, and more power than the tires can reliably put down. Those are the reviewer’s judgments, not universal results for every road or driver.
The Hellcat’s strongest case is its character: a large, usable sedan with the sound and force of a supercharged V8. Its compromises are part of the package, too. Drivers looking for refined cabin materials, communicative steering, or effortless traction may find the power less rewarding than the headline figure suggests.
How much horsepower does a Charger Hellcat have?
Dodge identifies the engine as a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, but output differs by configuration. Dodge’s 2023 materials rate the SRT Hellcat Jailbreak at 717 hp; the Redeye Jailbreak is rated at 807 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. Do not treat Redeye output as the rating for every Hellcat.
Dodge’s 2023 Charger model information covers Hellcat, Redeye, and Jailbreak variants. Jailbreak availability extended across SRT models, including the 717-hp Hellcat, according to Stellantis’ 2023 Charger pricing announcement.

Charger Hellcat Redeye vs. Hellcat
The supported output figures make the distinction clear, but the available price information does not support a complete price comparison across versions.
| Version | Power | Torque | Price information |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 SRT Hellcat Jailbreak | 717 hp, per Dodge/Stellantis | Not stated in the cited 2023 announcement | A complete trim-specific MSRP is not established here. |
| 2023 Redeye Jailbreak | 807 hp, per Dodge | 707 lb-ft, per Dodge | A complete trim-specific MSRP is not established here. |
The extra output of the Redeye Jailbreak is most relevant to buyers who specifically want the higher-output version. It does not erase the review’s traction criticism: Car and Driver says the car’s available power can exceed what its tires can use. The right choice depends on whether the added performance matters more to you than that limitation and the price of a particular vehicle.

2023 Charger Hellcat price
Stellantis listed a U.S. MSRP of $78,340 for the 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak Widebody in its October 27, 2022 announcement. The lineup’s announced MSRPs excluded $1,595 for destination and fees. This is a historical list price for that specific trim—not a current offer, a used-car valuation, or a price for every Hellcat configuration.

Is the Charger Hellcat a four-door?
Yes. The Charger SRT Hellcat is a four-door sedan with seating for five. Car and Driver lists 17 cubic feet of cargo capacity, giving it practical passenger and luggage space alongside its performance focus. That combination—not just the engine—is central to the Hellcat’s appeal as a muscle car that can carry more than two people.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Charger Hellcat mpg and everyday practicality
Car and Driver reports 15 mpg combined for its reviewed 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat. Treat that as the publication’s reported figure, not a guarantee of real-world economy or an independently confirmed EPA label value. Fuel use will vary with driving style and configuration; frequent use of the engine’s power is unlikely to suit a buyer prioritizing low fuel consumption.

Widebody fitment also calls for care when shopping for replacement tires. Dodge says the Widebody uses 20-by-11-inch Pirelli tires and specifies them as standard on SRT Hellcat Widebody and Redeye Widebody models. Wheel width alone does not identify the correct replacement: confirm the full tire size, load and speed ratings, and vehicle fitment for the exact car before ordering. Photos and model-year context
Dodge’s 2023 Charger model page includes vehicle imagery and gallery material for seeing the car’s exterior presentation and variants. The 2023 Hellcat is the final model-year version of this generation’s supercharged V8 four-door. Dodge’s subsequent Charger announcement describes a distinct next-generation, multi-energy lineup; those later vehicles are not the 2023 SRT Hellcat and should not be used to infer its specifications.
For a specific used example, check its model year and exact trim before comparing specifications or prices. Hellcat, Redeye, Jailbreak, and Widebody labels refer to different configurations, and the figures above should be matched to the version they describe.
