For the 2023 U.S. Camaro lineup, the 1LS has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 275 hp, while the LT1 has a 6.2L LT1 V8 rated at 455 hp. That 180-hp gap comes with different transmission options and additional performance-oriented hardware on the LT1—not just a trim-name change.

These specifications and equipment details are from Chevrolet’s 2023 Camaro brochure and apply to the U.S. model-year lineup described there. They are not a guarantee of the configuration of a particular used car.
What the engine and power difference means
Chevrolet lists the 1LS’s 2.0L turbo four-cylinder at 275 hp and the LT1’s 6.2L V8 at 455 hp. The difference is 180 hp, calculated from those two published ratings; it is not a separate Chevrolet statistic. The LT1’s V8 is the main distinction: this is a substantial powertrain step, not merely a more generously equipped version of the 1LS.
Chevrolet’s brochure describes the LT1 as having a “455-horsepower 6.2L V8 engine, shared with Camaro SS.” That wording identifies the engine and its relationship to the SS; it does not make the LT1 trim an SS.

Transmission choices differ by powertrain
The brochure lists a six-speed manual for both trims. The LT1 manual listing includes Active Rev Matching. Automatic availability differs: the 2.0L turbo is paired with an eight-speed automatic option, while the LT1 has a ten-speed automatic option. Check the specific car’s window sticker or vehicle documentation to confirm its transmission.
LT1 adds performance-oriented hardware
Beyond the V8, Chevrolet’s 2023 brochure lists an external engine oil cooler, limited-slip differential, and performance suspension for the LT1. It also specifies an SS-style hood, LT1 fender badging, and 20-inch silver-painted wheels fitted with all-season tires. The brochure lists 18-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels and a dual-outlet exhaust for the 1LS. Equipment can vary with the car’s configuration, so verify the individual vehicle rather than relying on its trim badge alone.

What does “LT1” mean, and is it the same as “1LT”?
In this comparison, “LT1” names the Camaro trim and also refers to the 6.2L LT1 V8 used in that trim. “1LS” is a different trim name, associated with the 2.0L turbo in Chevrolet’s 2023 U.S. brochure. Do not confuse 1LS with 1LT: they are different labels, and the trim and engine combinations can change across model years and markets.
Which Camaro should you choose?
Choose the 1LS if
- You want the 2023 configuration with the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder and its 275-hp published rating.
- You prefer the listed eight-speed automatic option, or want to compare the six-speed manual configuration.
Choose the LT1 if
- You specifically want the 6.2L V8 and its 455-hp published rating.
- You value the additional hardware Chevrolet lists for the LT1, including its limited-slip differential and performance suspension.
These points describe the documented powertrain and equipment differences; they do not establish that one trim costs less to buy, fuel, insure, or maintain. Why the model year and market matter
The figures above are specifically for the 2023 U.S. lineup. Camaro specifications and trim configurations are not universal across years or countries. For example, Chevrolet’s 2019 international technical document lists 275 hp for its 2.0L turbo and 453 hp for its 6.2L V8. Those are figures for that document’s market and model-year context, not replacements for the 2023 U.S. ratings.
When checking a used Camaro, use its window sticker or authoritative literature for the exact model year and market. Confirm the engine, transmission, body style, and installed options on the specific car before comparing it with another trim.
