The 2022 Harley-Davidson Sportster S is a performance-focused cruiser built around a liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250T V-twin. Harley-Davidson lists 121 hp, 94 lb-ft of torque, selectable ride modes and cornering-enhanced rider aids. Its original U.S. MSRP was $15,499 in Vivid Black or $15,899 in color; today’s used asking prices vary by listing, mileage and condition.
Engine and performance
The Sportster S uses a liquid-cooled, 1,252 cc 60-degree V-twin. Harley-Davidson’s 2022 specifications state 121 hp at 7,500 rpm and 94 lb-ft of peak torque at 6,000 rpm, with a 12:1 compression ratio. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Harley-Davidson’s 2022 model specifications list the displacement and output; its July 2021 technical release describes the engine and its development.
Harley-Davidson says the 1250T is tuned differently from the Pan America 1250 engine, using different cylinder heads, ports, pistons, intake velocity stacks and camshaft/VVT tuning to emphasize low- and midrange torque. The company claims up to 10% more torque between 3,000 and 6,000 rpm than the Revolution Max 1250. That percentage is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independently verified measurement.
The engine also acts as a stressed member of the chassis, serving as both power source and structural element. For suspension, Harley-Davidson lists a 43 mm inverted fork adjustable for compression, rebound and spring preload, plus a linkage-mounted piggyback monoshock with compression, rebound and hydraulic spring-preload adjustment. The listed lean angle is 34 degrees on either side.

Technology and rider aids
A 4-inch round, Bluetooth-equipped TFT display presents gauges, indicators and ride modes, with navigation available through the Harley-Davidson app. The motorcycle does not have an onboard GPS receiver; app navigation depends on cellular service, though routes can be preloaded as a backup, according to Harley-Davidson’s technical description.
The mode choices are Sport, Road, Rain and two custom modes. Depending on mode and settings, the system adjusts power delivery and engine braking as well as cornering-enhanced ABS and traction control. These features give riders selectable responses and electronic assistance; they do not replace appropriate speed, grip judgment or braking technique.

Dimensions, fuel economy and practical considerations
Harley-Davidson’s published reference figures include a 502 lb running-order weight, a 3.1-gallon fuel capacity, a 28.9-inch laden seat height and estimated fuel economy of 49 mpg. These are manufacturer specifications rather than independent measurements. Multiplying the listed tank capacity by the estimated economy gives a theoretical figure of about 152 miles, but that is not a tested riding range and should not be treated as a guarantee; real consumption and usable range vary with riding conditions.
When assessing fit or everyday usability, consider the laden seat height and riding position alongside weight, suspension adjustment and fuel capacity. The model page also lists a mid-control kit, engine guard, quick-release windshield, pillion and backrest, and tailbag. Confirm compatibility with the exact model year and any bike-specific changes before buying accessories.

2022 colors and official photos
The 2022 colors were Vivid Black, White Sand Pearl and Mineral Green Metallic. Harley-Davidson’s January 5, 2022 model-year announcement identified White Sand Pearl and Mineral Green Metallic as new colors for that year. Harley-Davidson listed the original U.S. MSRP at $15,499 for Vivid Black and $15,899 for color. The model page separately listed $200 for California emissions, $575 freight and a $500 surcharge. Harley-Davidson states that MSRP excludes taxes, title, licensing, registration, destination charges, accessories and dealer charges, and may change; these figures are not an out-the-door quote.

Other displayed examples included $12,000 with 2,400 miles, $12,731 with 5,026 miles and $12,991 with 2,923 miles.
