BMW specifies a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, matched to an eight-speed automatic. What is it like to drive every day?
The engine’s output and rear-drive layout give the 230i a lively character, while the automatic transmission makes it straightforward to use in routine driving. The handling and braking praise in the cited reviews supports its appeal as a driver-focused daily coupe, though it does not mean every wheel-and-tire configuration rides the same way.
MotorTrend found its M Sport test car firm over large road imperfections and noisy on imperfect pavement with 19-inch tires. Treat that assessment as specific to that configuration, not a blanket judgment about every 230i. If ride comfort and cabin noise matter to you, drive the exact car you are considering on the roads you use most.

Does the 2022 BMW 230i have a manual transmission?
