McLaren lists 804 bhp, a 203-mph top speed and a 0–62-mph time of 2.8 seconds. Reported US starting prices vary: automotive publications cite $1.690 million and $1.695 million, so neither should be presented as an uncontested figure.
What is the 2021 McLaren Elva?
The Elva is a two-seat, open-top roadster in McLaren’s Ultimate Series. Its defining feature is an open cockpit that uses the manufacturer’s Active Air Management System (AAMS) to shape airflow rather than relying on a conventional windshield as the central design solution. McLaren describes the system as directing air over the cabin to create a calmer cockpit zone. That is the manufacturer’s design description, not a guarantee that occupants are sheltered from weather or wind in every condition.
McLaren’s Elva model page includes exterior, cockpit and detail imagery. Confirm image rights and permitted use with McLaren before publishing or reusing its photographs.
Does the McLaren Elva have a windshield?
Not every Elva was necessarily windscreen-equipped. McLaren’s 2021 interim report records that a windscreen option was offered during 2021, with sales commencing in the second half of the year. Buyers should therefore distinguish the original open-cockpit configuration from cars specified with the optional windscreen; the option’s availability does not establish that it was fitted to every vehicle.

How much does a 2021 McLaren Elva cost?
US launch and model-page reporting does not agree on a single starting price. MotorTrend’s launch coverage gave a $1,690,000 base price before delivery, taxes and fees, and said McLaren Special Operations personalization could affect the final amount. Car and Driver’s 2021 model page and MotorTrend’s later review page report a $1,695,000 starting price.
| Price reference | Reported figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| MotorTrend launch report | $1,690,000 | Launch-era base price before delivery, taxes and fees; personalization could change the final price. |
| Car and Driver 2021 model page | $1,695,000 | Reported 2021 starting price. |
| MotorTrend review page | $1,695,000 | Reported starting price on its later model review page. |
| Car and Driver retail listing page | $1,550,000–$2,499,995 | A displayed retail asking-price range, which can change; it is not a verified transaction range or appraisal. |
The manufacturer materials cited here do not settle the $5,000 difference between the two reported base prices. Treat both as attributed published figures, not as a definitive invoice price. Actual purchase cost can also reflect specification, personalization, delivery, taxes and fees. Car and Driver reports that McLaren planned to build 399 examples; that is a reported production plan, not confirmation of final output.
