Chevrolet says it was unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show and sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in early 2020. The available public accounts do not establish this individual car’s build sheet, auction price, or later ownership.
What was the John Force Edition?
It was a special, one-off COPO Camaro—not a regular street Camaro trim named for John Force. Chevrolet described the car as a special edition in its March 11, 2024 retrospective, which says it debuted at the 2019 SEMA Show and sold at the Scottsdale edition of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in early 2020.
Chevrolet’s account does not give the sale price, identify a charity beneficiary, or establish the car’s current owner or location. It also does not publish an individual build sheet, so details from the general 2020 COPO lineup should not be treated as confirmed specifications for this particular car.
How it fits into the COPO Camaro program
COPO stands for “Central Office Production Order,” a Chevrolet ordering system that dealers used in 1969 to obtain powertrain combinations not ordinarily offered. Chevrolet revived the name for a manufacturer-backed drag-racing program: it showed a COPO Camaro concept at the 2011 SEMA Show, and the modern program was running for the 2012 model year.

The modern COPO is a purpose-built competition car, not simply a high-performance roadgoing Camaro. NHRA’s April 13, 2020 technical overview says 69 COPO Camaros were built annually for model years 2012 through 2020. That figure describes the general yearly program, not the number of John Force editions: Chevrolet identifies the latter as a one-off.
What the general 2020 COPO specifications tell us
NHRA’s 2020 overview covers the supercharged configuration of the model-year program. It describes a race-oriented chassis and drivetrain, but it is not a technical record for the John Force car. The listed components are therefore useful context, not verified equipment for this one-off.

NHRA’s overview also cites historical 2020 general-program prices of $117,500 to start and up to $170,000 fully optioned. Those are not the John Force car’s auction result, nor a current asking price or valuation.
How it differs from a roadgoing Camaro
A COPO Camaro and a roadgoing Camaro such as the ZL1 serve different purposes. NHRA presents the COPO as a purpose-built NHRA competition car, while its discussion of the production ZL1 concerns a roadgoing model. They are not interchangeable trims, and the COPO’s race equipment should not be taken as evidence of ordinary street equipment or road legality.

Is COPO support still available?
Chevrolet says it will continue supporting COPO racers with engine blocks, cylinder heads, a contingency program, and other items. That statement establishes ongoing support in general, but not current inventory, ordering availability, or participation by any particular racer or supplier.
