The 2015 Suzuki Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S. is the L5-year VZR1800BZ, a 1,783 cc cruiser distinguished by extensive blacked-out trim. Its published model-history figures include 125 hp, 160 Nm of torque and a 764 lb curb weight. If you are buying or maintaining one, the key safety check is whether Suzuki’s accessory-backrest bolt campaign applies to the hardware installed on that particular bike.
What is the 2015 M109R B.O.S.S.?
Suzuki’s model-history entry identifies 2015 as model code L5 and the first M109R B.O.S.S. year. B.O.S.S. stands for “Blacked Out Special Suzuki,” and the model designation is VZR1800BZ. SuzukiCycles.org’s M109R model history lists the 2015-specific details.
The black finish extends across the exhaust, engine covers, air-cleaner cover, final-drive case, handlebars, levers, switch cases, mirrors, tank and instrument cover, wheels, brake calipers, frame side covers, rear-fender stays, side stand, steering-stem clamps and front forks. Tail-lamp and turn-signal lenses are clear.
The two listed 2015 color schemes are Pearl Bracing White / Glass Sparkle Black and Candy Daring Red / Glass Sparkle Black.

A separate Suzuki feature-and-benefits sheet dated January 15, 2016 describes the 2016 VZR1800BZ. It gives useful model-family context—fuel injection with SDTV, wet-sump lubrication, five-speed constant-mesh transmission, shaft drive, inverted telescopic front suspension, link-style solo-shock rear suspension, twin front discs, one rear disc, and tubeless 130/70R18 front and 240/40R18 rear tires—but it is not a 2015 owner manual. Check the M109R backrest-bolt recall
Suzuki’s 2015 campaign concerns certain genuine accessory backrest mounting kits, part numbers 990A0-75148 and 990A0-75148-BLK, used on 2006–2015 VZR1800/Boulevard M109R motorcycles. The campaign’s affected-model table includes VZR1800BZ model years 2014–2015, all VINs. It does not mean that every 2015 M109R has defective bolts: applicability depends on the accessory hardware and bracket arrangement.
Some kits could contain four 110 mm bolts instead of the required combination of two 75 mm and two 95 mm bolts. In certain loading and riding conditions, an overly long bolt could contact and damage the rear tire, potentially causing loss of control. Suzuki’s recall notice specifies that an authorized dealer should inspect and carry out any required repair. Suzuki’s recall information describes the campaign.

Bracket configuration matters
- Early brackets with cutouts: the notice says no action is needed.
- Late brackets without cutouts and without genuine Suzuki saddlebag supports: bolt replacement is required.
- Late brackets with genuine Suzuki saddlebag supports installed: the notice says no action is needed while the supports remain installed. Removing them and reusing their longer bolts with only the backrest can create a tire-contact risk.
For a specific used motorcycle, check campaign completion by VIN with NHTSA or a Suzuki dealer, and have the installed bracket and bolts inspected. Model-year coverage alone does not establish whether the recall remains open on an individual bike. NHTSA’s recall lookup provides VIN-based recall information. Do not treat buying replacement bolts online as a substitute for the recall inspection.

Use the exact model designation and year when searching: “2015 VZR1800BZ L5.” The 2015 RevZilla OEM parts fiche lists categories including air/fuel, brakes, cooling, drivetrain, electrical, engine, exhaust, suspension and wheels. Confirm a part number in the model-specific fiche rather than assuming a generic M109R listing fits.

For spark-plug searches, Suzuki’s 2016 VZR1800BZ sheet lists “NGK CR8EK or DENSO U24ETR.” Treat those as adjacent-year search references, not verified 2015 fitment. Check the 2015 manual or a verified parts lookup for the motorcycle’s market and any modifications before ordering. No 2015 US-market owner or service manual was verified here, so do not use the 2016 sheet to infer 2015 service intervals, fluid capacities, torque values or procedures.
