These cars appear in secondary budget roundups, but current under-$10,000 asking prices were not established. Include one only if local listings show a genuine V8 example within budget and its condition and total likely cost make sense.
6. Chevrolet Corvette C5
The C5 is a two-seat sports car candidate, but don’t assume every example will fit the budget. A secondary source reports 345 hp and 350 lb-ft for the 2001 Corvette C5 LS1; that specification applies to that year and engine, not every C5. Carsforsale.com’s roundup reports the figures. Verify the individual car’s year, engine, title, and condition.

- Confirm the exact trim and engine. Check the vehicle documentation and have the engine identity verified during inspection. A model name alone is not enough: some affordable Mustang and Camaro listings are V6 versions. Kelley Blue Book’s budget roundup includes V6 Mustang and Camaro examples.
- Compare the whole car, not just the price. Consider year, mileage, maintenance records, title status, accident history, rust, and visible wear. Ask what repairs or maintenance are due soon.
- Inspect modifications carefully. Ask what has been changed, who did the work, and whether records are available. An undocumented modification is a reason for closer scrutiny, not proof of a problem by itself.
- Get an insurance quote and plan for ownership costs. The available sources do not establish comparable fuel, insurance, or repair-cost figures across these cars, so compare estimates for the specific vehicle and your circumstances rather than relying on a model-wide ranking.
- Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection. Ask a mechanic to inspect the car before you commit. A scan tool may surface diagnostic codes, but it cannot assess the vehicle as a whole.
