The ten models below are a U.S.-focused shortlist—not a ranking or a promise of future resale value. Compare individual cars by price, mileage, battery evidence, warranty, charging fit and condition.
What depreciation data can—and cannot—tell you
In its 2026 analysis, iSeeCars estimated that electric vehicles lost an average of 57.2% of their value over five years, compared with 35.4% for hybrids in its study. That is historical market evidence from iSeeCars’ dataset and methodology, not a forecast for a particular model or a signal that prices cannot fall further. Kelley Blue Book, citing Cox Automotive, reported U.S. used-EV sales were up 14.7% year over year in August 2026. More sales indicate market activity, but do not establish a bottom.
iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said of a recent reduction in five-year depreciation rates: “This recent reduction in 5-year depreciation rates suggests rising used car demand and/or insufficient supply over the past 12 months.” A change in depreciation rates is not the same as a guaranteed floor: values can still vary with supply, demand, new-car pricing, incentives, vehicle condition and local listings.
Ten used EVs to compare
The iSeeCars percentages below are five-year depreciation estimates from its 2026 analysis. They are not current asking prices, and they do not form a buy ranking. A lower percentage in that study does not automatically make a particular used listing the better purchase.

Chevrolet Bolt EV: a budget-focused starting point
For 2021–2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV/EUV examples, Edmunds’ guide—republished by AP on April 1, 2026—gave an approximate average price of $18,000. Treat that as a dated guide figure, not a current quote or a separate price for each body style. Edmunds lists up to 259 miles of original EPA-estimated range for the Bolt EV. The figure describes the new vehicle’s EPA estimate, not the range a used car is guaranteed to deliver today.
Chevrolet Bolt EUV: similar budget case, different shape
The EUV is the more crossover-like option in this pair. Edmunds lists up to 247 miles of original EPA-estimated range; actual present-day range depends on the individual vehicle and its use. The approximately $18,000 average above covers 2021–2023 Bolt EV/EUV examples together, so it does not establish a distinct EUV price.

Hyundai Kona Electric: compact option with below-average study depreciation
iSeeCars estimated 56.5% five-year depreciation for the Kona Electric in its 2026 analysis, versus 57.2% for EVs overall in that study. That modest difference is a historical comparison, not evidence that a Kona has stopped losing value. Compare local examples by model year, trim, mileage and condition.
Kia Niro EV: compact alternative near the study average
The Niro EV’s estimated five-year depreciation was 57.3% in iSeeCars’ 2026 analysis, close to that study’s 57.2% EV average. Its place on this shortlist is as a compact alternative to investigate, not a claim of exceptional value retention. Check the equipment and condition of each listing rather than relying on the model-level percentage.

Tesla Model 3: sedan with the lowest cited estimate, not a protected resale value
At 54.6%, the Model 3 had the lowest five-year depreciation estimate among the models listed in iSeeCars’ 2026 figures. It still lost more than half its value in that analysis. Consider it if a sedan suits your needs, and compare the specific car’s asking price, mileage, battery evidence and charging fit against equivalent local listings.
Tesla Model Y: compare the individual car and your charging options
iSeeCars estimated 57.8% five-year depreciation for the Model Y in 2026. That figure cannot tell you whether a specific listing is fairly priced or whether its charging arrangements suit your routine. Compare like-for-like model years, trims, mileage and condition, and assess the charging network or home-charging setup you expect to use.

Ford Mustang Mach-E: substantial depreciation makes trim and condition central
The Mach-E’s estimated five-year depreciation was 60.8% in iSeeCars’ 2026 analysis. That makes it a candidate to inspect for used-car value, but the percentage alone cannot identify a bargain. Compare trim, battery-condition evidence and usable range for the exact vehicle you are considering.
Volkswagen ID.4: investigate the equipment and history of each example
iSeeCars estimated 62.1% five-year depreciation for the ID.4 in its 2026 analysis. As with the other model-level figures, this is not an asking price or a prediction for an individual car. Confirm the vehicle’s equipment, service documentation, condition and battery-warranty status before weighing a low price against alternatives.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: choose by year, trim and charging requirements
The Ioniq 5 appears among current used-EV shopping candidates in iSeeCars’ 2026 coverage, but the cited model figures do not state a comparable depreciation percentage or price for it. Start with local listings, then choose a year and trim that suit your expected range needs and charging access.
Kia EV6: compare it directly with other suitable listings
The EV6 is another used-EV candidate named in iSeeCars’ 2026 coverage, without a comparable model depreciation figure or price in the cited data. Compare it with the Ioniq 5 and other cars you would realistically buy, using condition, trim, price and charging needs—not a presumed price floor—as the deciding factors.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to judge a used EV before you buy
- Compare genuinely similar listings. Use model year, trim, mileage and condition as filters. The only dated price example here is the approximate $18,000 average for 2021–2023 Bolt EV/EUV examples in Edmunds’ 2026 guide; it is not a live market quote and does not establish prices for the other models.
- Ask for battery-condition evidence. Look for an assessment of battery health or usable capacity, and compare the car’s observed range with what you need. An original EPA estimate describes a new vehicle; it cannot guarantee the range of a used example.
- Verify warranty coverage for the VIN. Confirm the battery-warranty start date, mileage limit, remaining coverage and transfer terms with the applicable manufacturer or warranty documentation. General warranty descriptions cannot establish coverage for a particular used car.
- Review records and recalls. Request service documentation and check whether relevant recalls have been completed. The model name or listing description alone does not establish the history of an individual vehicle.
- Match the vehicle to your routine. Consider daily distance, local climate and where you can charge. If relying on home charging, confirm that the vehicle and proposed equipment are compatible and that installation is practical for your home.
- Inspect the specific car. Have its condition assessed before purchase, including items that can affect safety, usability and ownership cost. A model-level depreciation statistic says nothing about damage or maintenance on an individual listing.
For a side-by-side decision, put purchase price, model year and mileage, usable-range evidence, battery and warranty documentation, charging access, and safety and condition on the same checklist. That makes the trade-offs visible without pretending that one depreciation percentage identifies the best car.
What “bottomed out” should mean to a buyer
None of the figures cited here establishes that a model has reached its lowest possible price. The practical opportunity is narrower: depreciation may bring a used EV into budget, while a careful vehicle-specific check can help you decide whether that particular car is worth buying at its current asking price. Treat “bottomed out” as a shopping hypothesis to test against comparable listings and the car’s condition—not as a resale guarantee.
