The Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo is the Z32-generation 300ZX fitted with Nissan’s twin-turbo VG30DETT V6. It is distinct from the naturally aspirated 300ZX, and specifications vary by market, model year, body style and transmission. Before buying one, confirm the exact car’s identity and equipment rather than relying on a general Z32 description.
1. The Twin Turbo is a Z32-generation 300ZX
Nissan identifies the fourth-generation Fairlady Z, also known as the 300ZX, as released in 1989. Its chassis generation is commonly called Z32, distinguishing it from the earlier Z31 300ZX. Nissan’s heritage collection is useful for identifying documented examples, but a generation name alone does not establish a specific car’s engine or equipment.

2. “Twin Turbo” identifies the VG30DETT engine
Nissan’s record for a 1989 Japanese-market 2by2 identifies a 2,960 cc V6, four-valve DOHC VG30DETT with twin turbochargers. The naturally aspirated version used the VG30DE. Those engine codes are the central distinction between the Twin Turbo and the non-turbo 300ZX; verify the engine and vehicle identification details on the individual car.
3. Power figures depend on the example and market
Nissan’s heritage record for the 1989 Japanese-market 2by2 GCZ32 lists 280 PS at 6,400 rpm and 388 N·m at 3,600 rpm. Nissan also lists those figures for a 1992 North American export Twin Turbo. These are specifications for those documented examples, not a complete specification table for every year and market. PS is metric horsepower; it should not be relabeled as SAE hp.

4. The naturally aspirated 300ZX is a different version
Nissan’s 2020 Z-history release describes the fourth-generation car as available with either the naturally aspirated VG30DE or twin-turbo VG30DETT. For the engine versions discussed in that release, Nissan gives 225 PS for the 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 and 280 PS for the Twin Turbo. Those figures belong to Nissan’s stated context, not a universal specification for every market or model year. See Nissan’s 2020 Z history release.
5. Body style changes the car you are looking at
The range included a two-seater and a 2by2 four-passenger body; Nissan’s heritage collection also documents a later convertible. Body style affects dimensions and curb weight, so do not apply one version’s measurements to another. Confirm the body and seating configuration when comparing cars or checking specifications.
6. Its chassis engineering was part of the package
Nissan documents four-wheel multilink suspension, Super HICAS four-wheel steering and aluminum-caliper opposing four-piston brakes as Z32 engineering features. These describe the car’s original design and equipment, not the present condition or performance of a particular example. Age, repairs, modifications and component condition still matter when assessing a used car.
7. North American examples should not stand in for every market
Nissan’s record for a 1992 North American export Twin Turbo identifies it as left-hand drive and lists an electronic four-speed automatic. That is evidence about this documented car, not proof that all North American Twin Turbos—or Z32s in other markets—used the same transmission. Check the transmission and market-specific equipment on the car you are considering.

8. Do not assume one global end date
Nissan’s heritage record includes a Japanese-market 2by2 Twin Turbo from 1998. That documented example makes it unsafe to infer a single worldwide end date from North American sales history alone. The available records do not establish a complete market-by-market production timeline, so confirm a car’s model year and original market individually.

Nissan’s official parts-store search listing identifies timing belt 13028-45P86 for 1990–1996 Nissan 300ZX. Before buying a belt, verify the VIN, engine, market and seller’s application details; the listing title alone does not establish fitment for every Z32 or Twin Turbo. It also does not provide a complete service schedule or establish the condition of a particular car.

10. Buy the specific car, not the reputation
Nissan’s heritage and history records establish original configurations and specifications, but they do not establish reliability rates, common failures, present-day safety performance, market value or the condition of an individual survivor. No Z32 Twin Turbo-only production total is established by these sources; Nissan’s figure of more than one million refers to the Fairlady Z series as a whole, not this generation or model.
For a buying comparison, gather the VIN-specific specification, model year, original market, engine, body style and transmission before comparing cars. Treat documented period equipment as a starting point for identification—not as proof that the car retains its original parts or is in sound mechanical condition.
