The Oldsmobile Rallye 350 was a 1970 model promoted around a Rocket 350 V-8 and a vivid Sebring Yellow appearance package. Its distinctive hood, striping and other advertised details make it recognizable, but period advertising describes how the car was offered—not whether an individual surviving car is original or complete.
1. What is a 1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350?
It is a performance model from Oldsmobile’s 1970 lineup. General Motors’ Heritage Archive retains a 1970 Oldsmobile vehicle information kit. The kit covers the model year, and its notice says equipment and specifications could change; use the relevant Rallye 350 section when checking a particular factory detail.
2. What engine did the Rallye 350 have?
Oldsmobile’s period advertisement presents the Rallye 350 as powered by a Rocket 350 V-8. That distinguishes its advertised identity from the 455-powered 442; it does not mean every 1970 Oldsmobile had the same engine or calibration. An enthusiast FAQ gives 310 hp at 4,800 rpm and 390 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm for the Rallye 350’s 350-cubic-inch four-barrel engine, but those are secondary figures, not figures confirmed here against the factory kit. See the Olds Junction / Classic Oldsmobile FAQ.
3. What color did the Rallye 350 come in?
The period advertisement centers the package on Sebring Yellow, with special paint treatment and two-tone striping. That describes the advertised package; paint on a car today does not by itself establish factory originality.
#1 Best Overall
- Revell Model Kit #14511, Skill Level 5, Contains 139-Parts, Recommended for ages 13 and up
- Detailed Olds Rocket 455 c.i V-8 engine.
- Choice of 4-speed manual or Turbo 400 automatic transmissions.
- Detailed interior with choice of two consoles. Optional spoiler.
- Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. Requires paint and glue. (not included)
4. What made its hood distinctive?
The advertisement specifies a fiberglass hood with functional air scoops. “Functional” describes the feature as advertised when new. A replacement or modified hood on an individual car needs inspection and documentation before its originality or operation can be judged.
5. Which exterior details identified the package?
Alongside its paint and hood, the period material lists urethane-coated bumpers, painted wheels, a blacked-out grille and special two-tone striping. The same advertisement says a rear-deck spoiler could be ordered, so it should not be treated as standard on every Rallye 350.
Rank #2
- 1:25 scale, skill level 2, paint & glue required
- 110 parts
- Molded in white, clear, transparent red, and some chrome-plated parts
- Black vinyl tires
- Built size: 8 inches long
6. What practical features did Oldsmobile promote?
The advertisement also highlighted features beyond appearance:
- Hidden windshield wipers and a windshield-mounted radio antenna.
- Front fender liners intended to resist corrosion.
- Door side-guard beams and an anti-theft steering-column lock.
These are period-advertised features, not a checklist that proves a surviving car still has its original equipment.

7. What was its wheelbase?
Oldsmobile’s period advertisement gives the Rallye 350 a 112-inch wheelbase. Treat that as an advertised model reference; consult the factory kit for a second primary-source confirmation if the figure is being used for detailed specifications.
8. How many Rallye 350s were made?
The published secondary figures conflict, and neither is confirmed by primary production records in the sources cited here.

Until a primary production record resolves the discrepancy, neither total should be presented as definitive or used alone to make a strong rarity claim.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. How can you tell a real Rallye 350 from a clone?
Appearance alone is not enough: paint, stripes, hood and other parts can be changed or reproduced. Evaluate model identity separately from condition and restoration quality. Useful evidence includes documented model identity, factory paperwork and tags, and whether the car’s components match the claimed configuration. The sources cited here do not establish a VIN or tag-decoding procedure, so a definitive authentication requires appropriate factory documentation and qualified model-specific review.

10. Where can you check the factory details?
Start with the GM Heritage Archive’s 1970 Oldsmobile vehicle information kit. Because it covers other 1970 Oldsmobiles and notes that equipment and specifications could change, check the Rallye 350-specific material before applying a detail to this model.
A digitized 1970 Rallye 350 sales booklet is also available through the Old Car Manual Project. Its archive page says the booklet may be viewed or printed free and that the archive does not sell brochures; the digitized copy establishes that period literature survives, not that a particular booklet is currently for sale.
What did Oldsmobile call it?
The March 13, 1970 issue of The Observer carried Oldsmobile’s advertising slogan, “Olds: Escape from the ordinary.” It is corporate advertising copy, not a quote attributed to an individual speaker.
