There is no evidence-based winner among Porsche restomod builders: the right choice depends on the donor car, how much you want changed, and whether the brief prioritizes analogue driving, modern usability, touring, or competition use. This criteria-led shortlist covers five specialists with detailed available profiles and five additional names identified in specialist or publisher coverage. It is not a tested ranking, and the order does not rate build quality.
How to read this shortlist
“Restomod” can describe anything from a restoration with carefully chosen upgrades to a substantially re-engineered car. A builder’s name does not guarantee one fixed specification: Singer describes personalized restorations, Theon tailors commissions to customers, and a PS Autoart feature shows a build shaped around its intended use.
The five detailed profiles below are the best-documented here for comparing approach and scope. The other five names are included because publisher or auction-house material identifies them as notable makers or contributors; that establishes relevance, not equivalence or superiority. Current prices, lead times, regional access, warranties, resale performance, and independently measured quality are not consistently established across these ten.

ACC Art Books describes its forthcoming 2026 book Porsche Rebels: Legends Reborn as Restomods as covering 28 brands and more than 60 models. Its scheduled publication date is November 17, 2026; that publisher description is not a census of the whole market or a ranking.

Which five have the clearest documented profiles?
Singer Vehicle Design: personalized 911 restorations with an analogue brief
Singer’s official overview describes owner-led restorations and reimaginings of classic 911s, with service families including Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet, DLS, DLS Turbo, and Classic Turbo. Its 2025 Carrera Coupe release describes a customer-provided Type 964 disassembled to its steel monocoque and restored to a personalized brief. Singer says chassis strengthening was developed with Red Bull Advanced Technologies and engine development involved Cosworth. For that release, Singer specifies a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 420 HP.
Singer Chief Strategy Officer Mazen Fawaz describes the company’s aim as making each restored car “an analogue jewel.” Treat that as the company’s stated philosophy, not independent proof of how a car drives or performs. Singer is a relevant fit to investigate if you want a bespoke, heavily developed 964-based 911 and place a premium on an analogue character; confirm the exact current program and specification for your brief.
Rank #2
- Package Dimensions: 39 L x 7 H x 25.8 W (inches)
- Package Weight: 14.8 pounds
- Country of Origin : Philippines
Gunther Werks: re-engineered 911 programs
Gunther Werks describes its cars as “reengineered and remastered,” with design, engineering, and manufacturing under one roof in California. Its company overview names F-26, Turbo, and legacy programs. Those descriptions establish a distinct engineering-and-manufacturing approach, but they do not support a direct performance or quality ranking against another builder.
Ask which program and donor generation match your intended car, what work is included in the particular commission, and what is bespoke rather than part of a program specification. The available company overview does not establish a comparable price, delivery time, or regional support picture.

Theon Design: customer-tailored 964 commissions
Theon describes combining digital design and modeling with traditional hand craftsmanship on Porsche 911 Type 964 commissions. Its June 3, 2026 release for commission GBR008 specifies a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six rated at 421 bhp, a wet weight of 1,146 kg, a six-speed manual, and semi-active suspension. These are company-published details for that commission, not a standard specification for every Theon.
The same release says each commission takes approximately 6,000 hours and that six clients worldwide would take delivery in 2026; these are company statements about its process and planned deliveries, not independently audited production figures. Theon lists a starting commission price of £430,000, excluding the donor car, shipping, and local taxes. That is a builder-specific starting point, not a market average or an all-in quote. Founder Adam Hawley’s description of the ideal commission as timeless is his view, not an independent assessment.
Rank #4
- Monocoque chassis and front and rear suspension accurately reproduced.
- Metal plated parts include wheels and exhaust pipe.
- Rear spoiler can be assembled in opened or closed position.
- Display quality further enhanced by metal transfers used for mirrors and Porsche emblem.
KAMManufaktur: a less common 912-based route
Wallpaper’s August 7, 2025 feature describes the Budapest-based KAMM 912T as a rebuilt and re-engineered Porsche 912. The reported changes include carbon body panels and revised chassis, brakes, and suspension; the feature reports 163 hp. Those details apply to the 912T described in that article, not necessarily to every KAMM project.
The feature presents the car as favoring analogue simplicity and touring comfort over maximum power. That makes KAMM worth investigating if a four-cylinder 912 is closer to your idea of a classic Porsche than a high-output 911. Confirm the current 912T specification and commission availability directly before comparing it with a 911-based build.

Paul Stephens / PS Autoart: define the car by how you will use it
A Paul Stephens specialist feature describes more than two decades of PS Autoart work on bespoke classic 911s, including SC-, 964-, and 993-based projects. It explains that client and builder develop the specification together, with the intended use—road, race, or rally—changing the brief.
This profile is useful if your first decision is not a power figure but what the car must do. Settle that use case early: it affects which donor and modifications make sense, and gives you a clearer basis for discussing trade-offs with the specialist.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What about the other five names?
Tuthill, Rennsport, and RWB are named among makers in ACC Art Books’ forthcoming survey; Tuthill is also named in a Bonhams catalogue. Bonhams also identifies Lanzante and RUF Automobile as independent contributors. These references make the names reasonable starting points for further investigation, but the available material does not supply comparable current model, engineering, pricing, or customer-process details for them.
RUF needs a category distinction: it has a manufacturer identity, unlike a workshop described only as restoring and modifying a customer’s donor car. Do not assume every RUF offering follows the same donor-based restomod model. Establish whether the particular car you are considering is a restoration or modification of an existing Porsche, a RUF product, or another kind of project before comparing it with the other names.
How to choose a builder for your own Porsche
- Choose the donor and generation. Ask whether the builder works from the specific car you own or want to source. The documented examples here range from Type 964-based commissions at Singer and Theon to KAMM’s 912T; those are different starting points, not interchangeable platforms.
- Write down the intended use. Separate road touring, occasional track use, competition, and show-focused priorities. A road, race, or rally brief can call for different decisions, as PS Autoart’s feature makes clear.
- Define how much modernization you want. Specify what should remain analogue and what may be changed. Ask about the engine, transmission, chassis, suspension, brakes, bodywork, and cabin individually rather than treating “restomod” as a fixed package.
- Request a build-specific scope and cost. Get the donor assumptions, included work, options, exclusions, shipping, taxes, and payment milestones in writing. A published starting figure such as Theon’s is not directly comparable with another builder’s undisclosed or differently scoped project.
- Verify delivery and support where you live. Confirm whether the builder is accepting commissions for your region, the likely timeline, who handles registration and transport, and what aftercare is available. The published information cited here does not establish these details consistently.
- Compare completed examples against your brief. Ask to see cars built for a similar use and specification, and discuss what changed during those commissions. Do not use headline horsepower alone as a proxy for engineering, usability, or value.
What “best” means for a restomod
For a 964-based, customer-tailored commission, Singer and Theon have the clearest detailed profiles in this shortlist. For a four-cylinder 912 with a touring emphasis, KAMM offers a different direction. Gunther Werks documents a re-engineering and manufacturing model, while PS Autoart’s described process foregrounds matching the build to its use. The remaining names merit consideration, but the available evidence does not justify ranking them against those five on specification, quality, or value. The best next step is to match your donor, use case, and desired degree of change to a builder’s current written scope.
