They cover very different needs: premium city comfort, fitness commuting, cruiser riding, folding portability, higher-speed travel, and budget entry-level use.
That distinction matters. This is not a Consumer Reports ranking from first to tenth, and it is not a current inventory list. It is a historical 2024 selection based on scores that SlashGear reported. Prices, stock, components, and model-year specifications can change, so use the list to understand the strengths and trade-offs of each bike rather than assuming every model is still sold in exactly the same form.

What the Consumer Reports reference actually means
SlashGear reported that all ten bikes in its list had Consumer Reports ratings of 80 or higher. Consumer Reports evaluates e-bikes across several categories, including Class 1, Class 2, folding, and mountain bikes, and its rating database can include measures such as range, acceleration, braking, control response, hill climbing, unassisted riding, portability, weight, and motor output. Its e-bike testing overview describes controlled tests such as acceleration, braking, hill climbing, and control response.

However, the available research does not establish that these ten models formed a single Consumer Reports ranking or that all ten were tested under one identical, publicly documented protocol. The accurate formulation is: SlashGear selected ten models it reported as scoring at least 80 in Consumer Reports ratings. That is different from saying Consumer Reports named these the ten best electric bikes overall.
The specifications and range figures below are manufacturer or article-era claims unless otherwise identified. Advertised range is not a standardized head-to-head result. Rider weight, hills, wind, temperature, tire pressure, assist level, speed, cargo, and how often the rider uses the throttle can all change the result substantially.

The ten bikes, organized by the kind of riding they suit
Premium city comfort
1. Cannondale Adventure Neo 4
The Cannondale Adventure Neo 4 is the most obviously comfort-oriented premium city bike in this group. Its step-through frame makes mounting and dismounting easier, while the upright urban geometry is intended for errands, bike paths, and commuting rather than aggressive road riding.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCannondale’s current U.S. product page lists a Bosch Active Line 250W drive unit, a removable 400Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, pedal assistance to 20 mph, a nine-speed drivetrain, and hydraulic disc brakes. Cannondale advertises up to 65 miles of range and identifies the lithium-ion battery system as UL 2849 certified. The company also warns that specifications can change without notice; the current Adventure Neo 4 listing should therefore take precedence over an old shopping page.
Why it stood out: Bosch drive-system familiarity, hydraulic braking, step-through accessibility, and the support associated with an established bicycle-shop brand.
Trade-off: The article-era price was about $2,875, putting it well above budget-oriented options. Its appeal is refinement and comfort, not being the fastest or least expensive bike here.
2. Marin Fairfax E
The Marin Fairfax E is aimed at riders who want an electric assist system without the visual bulk or motorcycle-like appearance associated with some high-output e-bikes. It has the proportions of a conventional fitness/commuter bicycle, making it a natural fit for paved commuting, exercise rides, and moderate-distance errands.

The article cited a $1,599 retail price, a 340Wh battery, and a Bafang 250W rear-hub motor producing 40Nm of torque. Marin’s cited range estimate spans roughly 19 to 62 miles, an unusually broad spread that illustrates how dependent range is on riding conditions and assist level. Marin’s current technical information is for a 2025 Fairfax E variant, so buyers should not assume that every component matches the 2024 bike covered by the roundup.
Why it stood out: It offers a more familiar fitness-bike riding concept and a lower article-era price than the premium Bosch-equipped Cannondale.
Trade-off: The smaller 340Wh battery gives it less energy capacity than several bikes here, and the cited range is an estimate rather than a comparable laboratory result.
Practical city commuters
3. Rad Power RadCity 5 Plus
The RadCity 5 Plus is equipped more like a working commuter than a stripped-down recreational e-bike. The step-through frame, rear cargo rack, front suspension, five assist levels, and hydraulic disc brakes all address the practical problems of daily urban riding. Rad Power’s current support information lists a 750W geared hub motor, a 20 mph top speed, a stated range of more than 50 miles, a 275-pound payload, and a two-year warranty.
Its 672Wh battery is substantially larger than the Fairfax E’s cited 340Wh pack, and the higher-output hub motor may be appealing to riders facing hills or carrying cargo. That does not mean the bike will deliver the same range or hill performance for every rider; motor output, gearing, rider weight, and terrain interact.
Current availability warning: Rad Power’s current product/support page marks the RadCity 5 Plus as out of stock. That is a current availability snapshot, not proof that the model has been permanently discontinued. Check Rad Power and authorized sellers before treating it as a readily purchasable recommendation. Do not use the original article’s 2024 price as a current offer.
4. Heybike Cityrun
The Heybike Cityrun takes a more feature-heavy, high-output approach to commuting. It is described with a 720Wh battery, a claimed range of up to 55 miles, and a 500W motor whose peak output is advertised as 1,000W. That distinction is important: nominal or rated motor power and peak output are not interchangeable measurements, and a peak number is not a promise that the motor continuously produces that power.
Heybike also claims that the battery can retain 80% of its capacity after 600 charge cycles. Treat that as a manufacturer durability claim, not a guaranteed mileage figure or a promise that every battery will have exactly that capacity after that many cycles. Charging habits, heat, storage conditions, use, and the specific battery can all affect degradation.
Why it stood out: A large battery and strong advertised output make it attractive to commuters who value equipment and acceleration assistance.
Trade-off: The Cityrun is described as a one-size commuter. Fit is therefore more important to verify before purchase, especially for shorter or taller riders. A large battery and high-output system can also add weight, which matters when lifting the bike onto a rack or up stairs.
5. Aventon Pace 500.3 Step-Thru
The Aventon Pace 500.3 Step-Thru is a particularly balanced option for riders who want cruiser comfort without giving up commuter features. Its step-through frame improves accessibility, and the model is offered in multiple sizes rather than relying entirely on a one-size fit. Integrated lights and turn signals are useful for visibility and signaling, although they do not replace defensive riding or legally required hand signals where applicable.
Aventon’s current information lists a 500W sustained motor rating and an 864W peak figure, a 614Wh UL 2849-compliant battery, a torque sensor, a throttle, four assist levels, and a claimed top speed of 28 mph. The stated range is up to 60 miles, and the total weight limit is 300 pounds. Optional equipment includes racks, fenders, a hitch rack, and child-seat or trailer accessories.
Why it stood out: The torque sensor can make pedal assistance feel more proportional to the rider’s effort than a cadence-only system, while the throttle provides another way to start or supplement pedaling.
Trade-off: A 28 mph capable e-bike may fall into a different legal category from a 20 mph model depending on the jurisdiction. Confirm local rules before using the higher speed on roads, trails, or bike paths.

6. Blix Aveny Skyline
The Blix Aveny Skyline takes the classic commuter route. The article described a 500W motor, 614Wh battery, up to 45 miles of estimated range, and an approximately six-hour charging time. Blix’s current technical information lists a 500W rear geared hub motor, mechanical disc brakes, fenders, an integrated front light, and a rear brake light, along with mounting points for accessories.
Compared with the Sol Eclipse, the Aveny Skyline makes more sense for a rider whose priority is everyday commuting equipment and traditional styling rather than a relaxed beach-cruiser posture. That is a use-case distinction, not a claim that one model is universally more comfortable or better handling.
Why it stood out: It combines a conventional-looking frame with built-in commuter equipment and front and rear disc brakes.
Trade-off: The six-hour charge figure and 45-mile range are estimates. Riders who commute long distances should plan a charging location rather than assume the maximum range will be available on every trip.
Cruiser comfort
7. Blix Sol Eclipse
The Blix Sol Eclipse is the relaxed cruiser choice. Its wide tires, large saddle, and comfort-focused layout are better aligned with easy neighborhood rides, waterfront paths, and casual errands than with a race-like riding position. The bike is described with a throttle and cadence sensor, which generally suits riders who want straightforward motor assistance without having to push hard on every start.
The article presented the Sol Eclipse as having a 500W-class motor, a 614Wh battery, and up to 45 miles of range. Blix’s current technical page lists a 750W rear geared hub motor, a 614Wh battery, a throttle, a cadence sensor, mechanical disc brakes, and a front light. Because the motor description differs between the 2024 article context and the current technical information, verify the exact model year and listing before comparing wattage with another bike.
Recommended Free Tools
Why it stood out: Its strongest case is comfort and an easygoing riding position, not a race-oriented specification sheet.
Trade-off: Wide tires and cruiser components can make a bike feel more substantial to move or store. Confirm frame dimensions, weight, and accessory compatibility if you need to transport it frequently.
Folding portability and high-speed commuter performance
8. Lectric One
The Lectric One is the drivetrain specialist of the group. It pairs a 48V 14Ah, 672Wh battery with a Pinion gearbox and Gates carbon belt drive. That combination is aimed at riders who value a clean, low-maintenance drivetrain and do not want the chain lubrication and exposed derailleur adjustments associated with a conventional chain-and-cassette setup.
Lectric’s official product material identifies a claimed 1,310W peak output, assistance up to 28 mph, up to 60 miles of range, UL 2271 certification for the battery, and the Pinion/Gates configuration. The article-era price was about $2,666. The premium is easier to justify for a commuter who rides frequently and values drivetrain durability and reduced routine maintenance; it is harder to justify if the bike will be used only for occasional short trips.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLegal qualification: A 28 mph e-bike is commonly treated differently from a slower Class 1 or Class 2 model, but the exact rules vary by state and locality. The motor’s advertised peak number does not itself determine where the bike can legally be ridden.
9. Lectric XP Step-Thru 3.0
The Lectric XP Step-Thru 3.0 is the practical folding choice. Folding capability can make a bigger difference in daily life than another few miles of advertised range: the bike may be easier to store in a small home, fit into some vehicles, or keep inside rather than lock outdoors. Its utilitarian appearance reflects that portability-first mission.
The 2024 roundup described a 1,000W peak motor, hydraulic disc brakes, and up to 65 miles with the long-range battery. Those are the figures to associate with the model as covered in that article. Lectric’s newer XP-family materials use different specifications, including 750W nominal and 1,310W peak figures on newer variants and UL-certified battery configurations. Do not silently replace the XP Step-Thru 3.0 with a newer XP 4.0 or another successor when shopping.
Why it stood out: Folding storage and hydraulic braking make it a practical choice for riders whose main constraint is space or transport.

Budget entry-level riding
10. Ancheer 350W Electric Bike
The Ancheer 350W Electric Bike is the budget-oriented entry point in the roundup. SlashGear described it as costing under $1,000 in the article’s context and listed a 350W motor, 499Wh removable battery, 20 mph top speed, up to 50 miles of stated range, and a rear cargo rack.
The low price comes with visible compromises. The article identifies rim brakes rather than disc brakes, a one-year warranty, a less refined appearance, and a more limited accessory ecosystem. Those are not automatic deal-breakers for a rider making short, flat, fair-weather trips, but they matter more for frequent commuting, wet conditions, hills, heavier cargo, or buyers who expect strong local service support.
Important model-identification warning: Ancheer’s generic 350W name can describe multiple marketplace listings and configurations. Confirm the exact battery, brakes, frame, charger, warranty, and replacement-parts support for the specific listing. Do not assume that a physically compatible battery from another listing is electrically or safely approved for the bike.
How to choose among the ten
Choose by use case, not by the largest wattage
- For premium urban comfort: Start with the Cannondale Adventure Neo 4, especially if the Bosch system, step-through design, hydraulic brakes, and bicycle-shop support matter more than price.
- For a conventional fitness-bike feel: Consider the Marin Fairfax E, while confirming the model year and accepting its smaller battery.
- For a fully equipped city commuter: The RadCity 5 Plus, Aventon Pace 500.3 Step-Thru, and Blix Aveny Skyline emphasize racks, lights, fenders, accessible frames, or commuter practicality. RadCity availability is the major current caveat.
- For cruiser comfort: The Blix Sol Eclipse prioritizes a relaxed position, wide tires, and a large saddle.
- For a premium, low-maintenance drivetrain: The Lectric One’s Pinion gearbox and Gates carbon belt are its defining features.
- For folding storage: Choose the Lectric XP Step-Thru 3.0 only after confirming the exact 3.0 specification, folded dimensions, and available battery configuration.
- For the lowest initial cost: The Ancheer may be appealing, but its brakes, warranty, support, and model-identification limitations deserve more scrutiny.
- For high-speed commuting: The Lectric One, Aventon Pace 500.3, and some other models advertise speeds up to 28 mph. Verify that your intended roads and paths permit that class of e-bike.
Compare battery capacity carefully
Battery watt-hours are a useful starting point. A 672Wh battery generally stores more energy than a 340Wh battery, all else being equal, but it does not guarantee a particular distance. A heavy rider climbing hills at high assist may use more energy than a lighter rider on flat pavement using low assist. Cold temperatures, underinflated tires, headwinds, cargo, and frequent throttle use can also reduce range.
For a daily commute, calculate the round-trip distance and leave a reserve rather than planning around the manufacturer’s maximum. If the battery is removable, check whether you can safely bring it indoors for charging and whether the charging location has a suitable outlet. If the bike has a proprietary battery, investigate replacement availability before purchase.

Understand motor ratings
Motor numbers in e-bike listings are easy to misread. A nominal or sustained rating describes a different thing from peak output, and neither number alone tells you how the bike will feel on a hill. Torque, controller tuning, gearing, wheel size, rider weight, and the assist sensor can be just as important.
For example, the Aventon Pace 500.3 is described with a 500W sustained rating and an 864W peak figure, while the Heybike Cityrun is described with a 500W motor and a 1,000W peak claim. Those figures should not be treated as a direct performance ranking. The Lectric One’s 1,310W peak claim likewise does not mean it continuously delivers 1,310W.
Recommended Free Tools
Prioritize fit, brakes, and carrying requirements
A bike that fits comfortably is usually more useful than one with the strongest specification on paper. Check standover height, reach, saddle height, handlebar position, and the manufacturer’s rider-weight limit. A step-through frame can be valuable for riders who find a high top tube difficult, while a one-size frame such as the described Heybike Cityrun requires extra care.
Hydraulic disc brakes generally offer a more advanced braking system than the rim brakes identified on the Ancheer, but brake performance still depends on setup, pad condition, tire grip, rider weight, and weather. If the bike will carry cargo, include the rider, battery, accessories, and luggage when comparing payload limits. The Pace 500.3’s cited total limit, for example, is 300 pounds, while Rad Power lists a 275-pound payload for the RadCity 5 Plus.
Also measure before purchasing. A folding Lectric XP may solve a storage problem but still be heavy to lift. A cruiser with wide tires may need more garage space. A rack or pannier mount is useful only if it is compatible with the bag, child seat, trailer, or other load you intend to use.

Battery safety
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends using micromobility products and batteries designed, manufactured, and certified to applicable consensus safety standards. It identifies UL 2849 as the standard associated with e-bike electrical systems and UL 2271 as a relevant battery standard. The CPSC safety guidance also says to use the supplied or manufacturer-recommended charger, remain present while charging, and never charge while sleeping.
- Use the original charger or one explicitly approved by the manufacturer.
- Do not charge the bike or battery while you are asleep or away from the home.
- Keep the battery and charger away from extreme heat, moisture, and combustible clutter.
- Do not use a damaged, swollen, leaking, unusually hot, or physically compromised battery.
- Do not buy a replacement pack merely because it fits the connector or battery compartment.
A CPSC warning involving certain Unit Pack Power U004 and U004-1 batteries illustrates the risk of generic replacement packs. The agency advised consumers to stop using affected batteries because of fire and burn hazards. The practical rule is simple: use a manufacturer-approved replacement battery whose exact compatibility and safety documentation can be verified. The CPSC UPP battery warning is a useful reminder not to treat physical fit as proof of safety.
Check the law where you will ride
E-bike classes, speed limits, throttle rules, helmet requirements, registration, licensing, insurance, and access to roads or multi-use trails vary by state and locality. A bike advertised at 28 mph may not have the same legal access as a 20 mph model. Some jurisdictions also regulate throttles separately or impose additional requirements on faster classes.
Before buying, consult the transportation or legislative authority for your state, county, city, or park system. Confirm at least four things: the bike’s legal class, the permitted maximum assisted speed, whether throttles are allowed where you plan to ride, and whether a helmet or registration is required. The manufacturer’s speed claim is not a legal authorization to use every path.
Regardless of local law, a properly fitted UL-certified e-bike helmet is a sensible part of the purchase, especially for a faster model or mixed-traffic commuting. Lights, reflective clothing, and a practice ride in a low-traffic area are also worthwhile before carrying passengers or cargo.

Accessories that change the ownership experience
The right accessory depends on the bike’s mounting points and your route. A RadCity 5 Plus, Pace 500.3, or Aveny Skyline may be much more useful for commuting with a compatible e-bike rear rack and pannier bags for commuting than with a backpack. Check the manufacturer’s rack rating, axle and frame clearance, heel clearance, and whether the chosen bags attach securely.
If the bike will be parked outside a workplace or store, a folding e-bike lock can be more convenient to carry than a large rigid lock. No lock guarantees that a bike cannot be stolen, so combine it with a secure fixed object, a visible location, and the shortest practical parking time.
For riders traveling beyond immediate bike-shop support, an e-bike tire repair kit, pump, and basic bicycle multitool can prevent a minor puncture from ending a ride. Confirm the tire size, valve type, and whether the bike uses tubes or a tubeless setup before selecting supplies.
Finally, account for storage and transport. Measure the folded XP Step-Thru 3.0 rather than estimating from photographs. Confirm that a vehicle rack is rated for the bike’s weight and frame style, and do not assume a standard rack is suitable for a heavy or fat-tire e-bike.

What changed since the original 2024 list?
- Prices are historical: The $2,875 Cannondale figure, $1,599 Marin figure, $2,666 Lectric One figure, and under-$1,000 Ancheer description belong to the article’s 2024 context.
- Availability has moved: The RadCity 5 Plus is currently marked out of stock on Rad Power’s support/product page. That status can change and does not by itself establish permanent discontinuation.
- Model-year specifications can differ: The current Fairfax E technical page describes a 2025 variant; the Blix Sol Eclipse’s motor description differs between the article and current technical information; and newer Lectric XP models should not be used as stand-ins for the XP Step-Thru 3.0.
- Manufacturer pages can change: Component specifications, prices, battery options, and stock can change without notice. Verify the exact product page and seller before ordering.
- Range remains an estimate: None of the range figures above should be interpreted as a common independent test result.
Buying recommendation
For most shoppers, the decision should begin with riding position, local legality, storage, and service support—not the largest motor number. The Cannondale Adventure Neo 4 is the premium comfort-oriented choice; the Marin Fairfax E is the conventional fitness commuter; the RadCity 5 Plus, Pace 500.3, and Aveny Skyline are practical city-bike candidates; the Sol Eclipse favors relaxed cruising; the Lectric One targets premium low-maintenance commuting; the XP Step-Thru 3.0 is for folding storage; and the Ancheer is the price-led compromise.
Before purchasing any of them, confirm the exact model year, battery certification and replacement path, current stock, warranty terms, rider and cargo limits, folded or assembled dimensions, and the rules for the routes you intend to use. Those checks are more reliable than treating a 2024 score, a peak-wattage figure, or a maximum-range claim as the entire buying decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Consumer Reports rank these ten electric bikes from first to tenth?
No. The careful description is that SlashGear selected ten models it reported as receiving Consumer Reports ratings of at least 80. The available information does not establish a single first-to-tenth Consumer Reports ranking for all ten bikes.
Are the prices in this list still current?
Not necessarily. The original roundup was published in December 2024, so the cited $2,875 Cannondale price, $1,599 Marin price, $2,666 Lectric One price, and under-$1,000 Ancheer description are article-era references. Check the manufacturer or authorized seller for current price and availability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs the RadCity 5 Plus still available?
Rad Power’s current support/product page marks the RadCity 5 Plus as out of stock. That is a current availability warning, not proof that the model has been permanently discontinued.
Can I expect the advertised maximum range?
Maximum range is a manufacturer estimate, not a standardized result shared by all ten bikes. Rider weight, hills, speed, assist level, throttle use, wind, temperature, tire pressure, and cargo can substantially change the distance.
What battery certification should I look for?
The CPSC identifies UL 2849 as the standard for e-bike electrical systems and UL 2271 as a relevant battery standard. Use the supplied or manufacturer-approved charger, remain present while charging, never charge while sleeping, and replace a battery only with a pack approved for that exact bike.
Are 28 mph electric bikes legal everywhere?
No. Class definitions, speed limits, throttle rules, helmet requirements, registration, and trail access vary by state and locality. Check the official transportation or legislative authority for the places where you will ride before buying a 28 mph-capable model.

Then verify the exact current model, battery, legal class, warranty, stock, and safety documentation before buying.
