10 Motorcycles Under $6,000: U.S. Base-MSRP Picks for 2026

These 10 U.S. motorcycles have listed base MSRPs below $6,000, but destination, dealer charges, taxes, and registration can push an actual purchase above budget.

For U.S. shoppers, 10 new motorcycles have current manufacturer-listed base MSRPs below $6,000, spanning sport, standard, dual-sport, and cruiser styles. These are use-case picks, not a universal performance ranking—and a price below $6,000 before fees does not guarantee a purchase below that amount.

What “under $6,000” means here

The cutoff is a U.S. manufacturer-listed base MSRP below $6,000, not an out-the-door budget. Kawasaki says its base MSRP excludes destination, options, taxes, title, license, and dealer fees and charges. Honda’s listing shows how much that distinction can matter: the CB300R is $4,499 base MSRP plus a $600 destination charge, or $5,099 before dealer fees and taxes; the CB500 Hornet is $5,899 plus $600 destination, or $6,499 before those additional costs. Kawasaki’s catalog and Honda’s sportbike lineup provide those pricing qualifications.

Local inventory, dealer charges, taxes, title, registration, and accessories can raise the final total. If $6,000 is a hard cash ceiling, request a written, itemized out-the-door quote and compare equivalent trims and equipment; do not assume a listed base MSRP is the dealer’s final price. Carcody’s current price comparison also recommends checking the full purchase total.

10 motorcycles to compare

The picks below are grouped by riding style. Prices are manufacturer-listed U.S. base or starting MSRPs, not dealer quotes. Model year and trim are included where stated; check the current catalog and local stock before visiting a dealer.

Which style suits your riding?

For a faired sport-style bike

The Ninja 500, Ninja 300 ABS, and YZF-R3 are the faired options in this group. Compare the actual trim and equipment, not just the model name: the 2026 Ninja 500 has separate listed prices for non-ABS and ABS versions. Choose based on your experience, intended roads, fit, and budget rather than assuming sportbike styling means one model is automatically best.

For an upright street bike

The Z500 ABS, MT-03, CB300R, and CB500 Hornet offer standard or naked-bike alternatives. Their listed prices range from Yamaha’s $4,999 MT-03 starting MSRP to Honda’s $5,899 CB500 Hornet base MSRP. For the Hornet in particular, Honda’s destination charge pushes the listed total MSRP over the stated ceiling.

For mixed pavement and off-road use

The XT250 and TW200 are the dual-purpose choices. Think about how much of your riding will be on pavement, where you plan to ride off-road, and what on-road requirements apply where you live. The secondary comparison describes the TW200 as a low-speed dual-purpose bike rather than a high-performance highway choice; use that distinction when considering your routes.

For cruiser styling

The V Star 250 is the small-displacement cruiser in this shortlist. Its $4,799 starting MSRP leaves more room below the nominal ceiling than the models near $6,000, but the dealer’s full quote and local availability still determine whether it fits your actual budget.

How to choose beyond the sticker price

Price and category narrow the list, but neither establishes which motorcycle will fit you. Before deciding, compare the specific model year and trim on the following points; specifications can vary, so verify them on the current manufacturer listing or with the dealer.

  • Riding purpose: Decide whether most miles will be on city streets, faster roads, or a mix of pavement and off-road terrain.
  • Fit and low-speed confidence: Compare seat height and weight, then assess how comfortably you can manage the bike at stops and while maneuvering. These are useful comparison axes, not a substitute for trying the specific model.
  • Power and experience: Match the motorcycle’s engine and power to your experience and intended riding. The price listings alone do not establish how a bike will feel or whether it is appropriate for an individual rider.
  • ABS and equipment: Confirm whether the quoted trim includes ABS and identify any options that change the price. The Ninja 500 listing, for example, distinguishes non-ABS and ABS MSRPs.
  • Full purchase cost: Ask for an itemized out-the-door quote that identifies destination or freight, dealer charges, taxes, title, registration, and any accessories. Compare quotes for the same trim and equipment.
  • Availability: Confirm the model year and whether the configuration you want is actually available at a local dealer before treating its listed price as a purchase option.

A beginner-focused comparison also uses engine, power, seat height, weight, ABS, and price as useful screening factors, while noting that its specifications and prices can be model-year-sensitive. See Derringer Cycles’ comparison, then verify the exact current model details with the manufacturer.

Get a quote that fits a real $6,000 budget

  1. Choose a model and exact trim, including whether you want ABS where available.
  2. Ask a local dealer for a written, itemized out-the-door price—not only the advertised base MSRP.
  3. Check that the quote identifies destination or freight, dealer fees, taxes, title, registration, and any accessories separately.
  4. Compare itemized quotes for the same model year, trim, and equipment. If the total exceeds your ceiling, consider a lower-base-price option or revisit the budget rather than assuming the listed MSRP is the final amount.
