But the available manufacturer records do not establish comparable horsepower ratings for ten Yamaha cruisers, so a precise ten-place power ranking would be misleading. This is an evidence-led guide to ten notable Yamaha cruiser candidates, with published power figures separated from torque, displacement and equipment.
Why this is not a strict horsepower ranking
“Most powerful” is best measured by maximum engine output, but Yamaha’s available specifications do not provide comparable horsepower figures for ten models. Some records give power in kW or PS; others give torque, displacement, or only the engine speed at which a maximum occurs. Those are useful specifications, but they cannot be substituted for horsepower.
The candidates below are selected for their performance-focused or flagship status, notable engine specifications, and relevance to Yamaha’s cruiser history—not placed in a verified order of power. Factory output ratings are also not interchangeable with rear-wheel dynamometer results. Model year, market, units, and measurement method matter.
Ten notable Yamaha cruiser candidates
1. Yamaha VMAX (2008)
The strongest directly documented output figure in the available Yamaha records belongs to the 2008 VMAX: 147.2 kW at 9,000 rpm, reported in Yamaha’s archive entry for the model. The archive identifies a 1,679cc V4. This is the standout documented power figure in this comparison, but it should not be treated as a like-for-like ranking against models for which only torque or displacement is published here.

2. Yamaha VMAX (2009, North American specification)
Yamaha’s specification table for the 2009 North American VMAX lists maximum torque of 166.8 N·m at 6,500 rpm, while maximum output is marked “N.A.” The redesigned VMAX has a 1,679cm³ liquid-cooled V4, but that 2009 table does not supply a power number. Keep this market- and year-specific torque figure separate from the 2008 archive’s output rating. See Yamaha’s VMAX release and specifications.
3. Yamaha Raider (2008 North American model)
Yamaha announced the Raider as a 2008 North American model with a 1900cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, 48-degree V-twin. The release says maximum power occurs at 4,500 rpm and maximum torque at 2,500 rpm, but the cited text does not state a numeric maximum-power value. An rpm point is not a horsepower rating, and displacement alone cannot supply one. Yamaha said the basic specifications matched the XV1900A. Details are in the Raider announcement.

4. Yamaha XV1900A
The XV1900A is relevant because Yamaha’s Raider announcement identifies it as sharing the Raider’s basic specifications. That supports describing the family’s 1900cc V-twin architecture, but the available release does not establish a numeric horsepower figure for either model. Do not infer a power ranking from the shared displacement or the stated engine speeds.
5. Yamaha Star Venture (2018 U.S. model)
Yamaha’s 2017 announcement gives specifications for the 2018 U.S. Star Venture: 1,854cm³ displacement and maximum torque of 171.0 N·m at 2,500 rpm. It does not give horsepower in the cited specification. The Star Venture is a full-dress touring cruiser, with equipment including YCC-T throttle control and SURE-PARK, so its role differs from the muscle-style VMAX. See Yamaha’s Star Venture announcement.

6. Yamaha XV1600 Road Star (1999)
Yamaha’s archive reports 42.7 kW (58.0 PS) at 3,750 rpm for the 1999 XV1600 Road Star. The archive describes its 1,600cc V-twin as the world’s largest production-motorcycle displacement at that time—a historical claim, not a present-day superlative. The published power figure is useful, but it is not directly comparable to a torque-only specification. See Yamaha’s Road Star archive entry.
7. Yamaha XV1900A Raider family variants
Raider-badged variants belong in a list of candidates because they use the large-displacement XV1900A platform identified in Yamaha’s announcement. However, the cited source establishes neither separate numeric power ratings for individual variants nor a basis for ordering them against other cruisers. Treat a particular variant’s rating as unverified unless a year- and market-specific specification is available.

8. Yamaha VMAX variants beyond the 2008 and 2009 records
Later or market-specific VMAX variants may have published specifications elsewhere, but the records cited here do not establish their output figures. The 2008 archive rating and 2009 North American torque table cannot be silently carried over to other years or markets. Verify the exact model year and regional specification before comparing a different VMAX.
9. Yamaha Star Venture variants beyond the 2018 U.S. model
The available Star Venture figure is tied to the 2018 U.S. model specification published in Yamaha’s 2017 announcement. It documents torque and displacement, not maximum horsepower. Do not assume the same values apply to another year or market without its own specification.

10. Other Yamaha cruiser models
Yamaha has produced other cruiser models, but a model’s presence in the category is not evidence that it belongs in a proven top ten by horsepower. The official material available for this comparison does not provide ten comparable, model-specific output ratings. Naming additional models as ranked entries would imply evidence that is not established here.

How to compare Yamaha cruiser power fairly
- Compare the same kind of measurement. A factory engine-output rating is not the same as a rear-wheel dyno measurement. Do not rank one against the other without clearly labeling the difference.
- Keep units intact. Yamaha’s Road Star archive reports both kW and PS; torque is reported in N·m. Torque is not horsepower, and a peak-rpm figure alone does not reveal the numeric peak.
- Identify year and market. The VMAX examples demonstrate why: Yamaha’s 2008 archive reports output, while its 2009 North American table lists torque and marks maximum output “N.A.”
- Use engine details as context, not a substitute. Displacement, cylinder layout, cooling, and induction help describe a motorcycle, but they do not establish a comparable power rating.
What the documented figures establish
The 2008 VMAX is the clear leader in this evidence set because it is the only candidate here with a substantial, directly stated output rating: 147.2 kW at 9,000 rpm. Yamaha’s records also document substantial torque figures for the 2009 North American VMAX and 2018 U.S. Star Venture, plus a numeric output rating for the 1999 Road Star. They do not establish a defensible ten-place horsepower ranking. For a particular buying, restoration, or comparison decision, use the exact model year and market’s manufacturer specification and keep any independent wheel-power test separate from factory output.
