Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no single “perfect” middleweight sport bike: the right choice depends on whether you want a road-friendly faired bike, a sharper track-day machine, or something between them. This US-facing shortlist spans twins, a triple and four-cylinder models, and includes both versatile road bikes and focused supersports. Model names, specifications and availability vary by market, so check the local 2025 version before buying.
What counts as a middleweight sport bike?
“Middleweight” is a broad category, not a promise of a particular riding position or performance level. A 2025 comparison by MOTORRAD grouped the Aprilia RS 660, Honda CBR650R E-Clutch, Suzuki GSX-8R, Triumph Daytona 660 and Yamaha R7 as a varied road-oriented class. Its headline described bikes around 100 PS; that is a description of the comparison, not a verified output figure for every trim in every market. MOTORRAD’s 2025 comparison helps distinguish this group from more competition-oriented 600-class supersports.
Displacement alone does not tell you how a bike will feel. Parallel twins, a triple and inline-fours deliver power differently, while ergonomics and equipment can matter more than a small difference in engine size. The models below are a curated set, not a universal ranking or a claim that one bike wins for every rider.
Road-focused middleweights
Aprilia RS 660 — electronics-rich road and track crossover
The RS 660 appears in MOTORRAD’s five-bike 2025 comparison, alongside the R7, GSX-8R, CBR650R E-Clutch and Daytona 660. The comparison discusses selectable modes and rider controls, making the Aprilia a choice to consider if you want electronic adjustability as part of a sporty road-and-track package. Confirm the exact equipment on the trim sold in your market rather than assuming every 2025 version is identical.

Honda CBR650R — four-cylinder road sport
The CBR650R offers a four-cylinder alternative to the twin-heavy road-focused group. Honda’s 2025 Supersports brochure lists a 649 cc engine and 70 kW at 12,000 rpm for the shown standard specification; it also distinguishes standard and A2-restricted versions. Those figures come from a brochure hosted by Honda Lithuania, so verify the specification and whether the standard, restricted or E-Clutch version is sold where you live. The E-Clutch model was the one included in MOTORRAD’s comparison.
Honda’s 2025 Supersports brochure provides the cited figures; it is not a substitute for your local market’s specifications.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 — milder, road-friendly faired option
The Ninja 650 belongs here as the more accessible road-sport alternative, not as a direct peer to the track-focused supersports below. It may suit riders who prioritize everyday road use over a competition-oriented feel. A 2025 official specification was not established for this article, so check Kawasaki’s local listing for current equipment, dimensions and availability before comparing it with the other bikes.

Suzuki GSX-8R — torque-oriented parallel twin
Suzuki’s US specification for the 2025 GSX-8R lists a 776 cc parallel twin, 205 kg curb weight and 810 mm seat height. The curb-weight figure is useful for evaluating the bike in its own specification context, but it should not be compared as though it were measured on the same basis as another manufacturer’s wet weight. Suzuki’s US 2025 GSX-8R page has the listed figures.
Triumph Daytona 660 — triple-cylinder road sport
The Daytona 660 was included in the same 2025 road-oriented comparison as the RS 660, CBR650R E-Clutch, GSX-8R and R7. Its three-cylinder layout gives it a distinct engine configuration within that group. The comparison establishes its place in the field, but the figures needed for a detailed specification comparison are not available here; use Triumph’s local 2025 listing to verify power, dimensions, equipment and trim.
Yamaha YZF-R7 — compact parallel twin
Yamaha’s US 2025 specification lists the R7 at 689 cc, 414 lb wet, with a 32.9-inch seat height and estimated fuel economy of 58 mpg. Yamaha says wet weight includes standard equipment, fluids and a full tank; the fuel-economy number is an estimate, not a guaranteed result. It also specifies Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tires in 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear sizes. Confirm exact model-year and market fitment before purchasing replacement tires.

More focused four-cylinder supersports
Honda CBR600RR — 599 cc supersport
The CBR600RR is the more focused Honda choice in this list. Honda’s 2025 brochure lists 599 cc, 89 kW at 14,250 rpm and 63 Nm at 11,500 rpm for the shown specification. The high stated engine speeds help illustrate how different its character is from the road-focused twins, but the figures are from a brochure hosted by Honda Lithuania; check the version sold in your country before relying on them.

The ZX-6R is a 636 cc supersport option. Kawasaki’s US 2025 listing gives maximum torque as 52.1 lb-ft at 10,800 rpm and presents separate curb-weight figures for ABS and emissions configurations. Those configuration distinctions matter when comparing specifications. Check Kawasaki’s current local listing for the exact trim and price, since dealer and MSRP figures can change.

Suzuki GSX-R600 — traditional 599 cc supersport
Suzuki’s US 2025 listing gives the GSX-R600 a 599 cc engine and 187 kg curb weight, and identifies adjustable Showa front and rear suspension. That equipment is relevant to riders considering setup changes for spirited riding or track days; it does not by itself establish that the bike is the best track choice. Suzuki’s US 2025 GSX-R600 page has the cited details.
Suzuki GSX-R750 — extra-displacement middle ground
The GSX-R750 sits between 600-class and larger supersport concepts by displacement, but the material available here does not establish current market specifications for price, power, weight or equipment. The FIM’s 2025 homologation listing includes it in the Supersport / Next Generation set. Homologation indicates competition eligibility under the relevant rules; it is not a consumer award, proof of better road manners, or evidence that a bike is ideal for public-road use. The listing describes an eight-year homologation period, not an eight-year warranty or service-life claim.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right one
- Start with use. For commuting and regular road riding, focus on how the road-oriented models fit your daily routes. If track days are a priority, compare the supersport models’ ergonomics and adjustable equipment as well as their engine character.
- Check fit in person. Sit on the bike, reach the bars and controls, and assess how your feet meet the ground. Seat height is only one part of fit; an in-person fit check or test ride, where available, is more useful than choosing from displacement alone.
- Compare like with like. A wet weight that includes fluids and a full tank is not the same stated measure as a curb weight. Keep the maker and measurement convention attached to each figure.
- Verify your market’s trim. Power, rider aids, restrictions, emissions configurations and availability can differ by country and version. This is especially important where a source specification is from another market.
- Account for ownership needs. Tires, routine maintenance and local parts availability affect the cost and convenience of ownership. Check the exact tire sizes and approved fitment for your model year before ordering.
- Check current local pricing. Prices and dealer availability change; compare current listings for your country and trim rather than treating an old MSRP or a foreign-market figure as a current quote.
Which type is likely to suit you?
Choose among the road-focused RS 660, CBR650R, GSX-8R, Daytona 660 and R7 by sitting on them and comparing engine layout, controls and local equipment. Consider the Ninja 650 if you want a milder road-sport choice. Look at the CBR600RR, ZX-6R, GSX-R600 or GSX-R750 if you are specifically seeking a more competition-oriented supersport, while remembering that track credentials do not decide road comfort or fit. The strongest shortlist is the one you can verify in your local market and comfortably ride for the kind of miles you actually do.
