There is no single, apples-to-apples “most reliable luxury car” score for 2025. The strongest Consumer Reports predicted-reliability result in this group is the BMW i4 (83/100), while the 2025 Lexus NX (77/100) and 2025 Lexus NX Hybrid (76/100) also score well. J.D. Power’s separate three-year study puts Lexus first among premium brands at 140 problems per 100 vehicles. A third source counts recalls, which is useful for screening used cars but is not the same as owner-reported dependability.
The list below keeps those measurements separate so you can match the evidence to the car you are buying, whether that is a new luxury SUV, an electric sedan or a used grand tourer.

How to read the 2025 reliability evidence
These ten cars come from three different measurements. They should not be merged into one numerical league table.
| Source and measure | What it measures | Time horizon and sample | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consumer Reports predicted reliability | Owner-reported problems in 20 potential trouble areas, converted to a 1–100 score | 2025 forecast based on data from more than 300,000 vehicles | Higher is better for expected trouble-free ownership of the new model |
| J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study | Reported problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) across 184 problem areas | 34,175 original owners of 2022 model-year vehicles, surveyed after three years; 2025 study | Lower is better; it reflects vehicles already in service for three years |
| NHTSA-based recall analysis cited by Kiplinger | Number of recalls in the prior ten years and an expected annual recall count | Historical recall records, not an owner-satisfaction survey | Useful for checking recall exposure, but a recall is not a failure-rate or dependability score |
J.D. Power reported an industry average of 202 problems per 100 vehicles in 2025. Lexus recorded 140 PP100, Cadillac 169 and Porsche 186. The study also found 199 PP100 for conventional hybrids, 200 for gasoline vehicles, 223 for battery-electric vehicles and 242 for plug-in hybrids. Those powertrain averages describe the industry, not a guarantee for any one model.
#1 Best Overall
The 10 luxury cars with the strongest reliability evidence
1. BMW i4 — Consumer Reports predicted reliability: 83/100
The 2025 BMW i4 has the highest score among the explicitly luxury models in the cited Consumer Reports top-ten list. Its 83/100 is a forward-looking owner-problem prediction, not a three-year dependability result or a recall count.
Best fit: an electric luxury sedan buyer who wants the strongest available Consumer Reports signal in this set. Because battery-electric vehicles averaged 223 PP100 in J.D. Power’s 2025 powertrain comparison, do not use the i4 score to assume every EV will match it.
2. 2025 Lexus NX — Consumer Reports predicted reliability: 77/100
The gasoline-oriented 2025 Lexus NX records 77/100 in Consumer Reports’ 2025 prediction. It is a compact luxury SUV and a sensible candidate for buyers prioritizing a high new-car forecast in a practical body style.

3. 2025 Lexus NX Hybrid — Consumer Reports predicted reliability: 76/100
The 2025 Lexus NX Hybrid scores 76/100, only one point below the 2025 NX in the cited Consumer Reports data. That is a separate model result, not proof that every Lexus hybrid is identical.

Conventional hybrids deserve separate treatment from plug-in hybrids: J.D. Power’s 2025 comparison recorded 199 PP100 for hybrids versus 242 PP100 for plug-in hybrids. Those are fleet-level averages and do not replace the NX Hybrid’s model-specific Consumer Reports score.
4. Lexus GX — J.D. Power 2025 dependability award recipient
The Lexus GX received a J.D. Power 2025 model-level Vehicle Dependability award. J.D. Power’s 2025 award information does not provide a GX-specific PP100 number, so the award should not be converted into a score or directly ranked against the Consumer Reports figures above.

Confirm the exact generation and model year when shopping used, because the award evidence and a vehicle’s service history may describe different vehicles.
5. Lexus NX 300h — one recall in 10 years; 0.1 expected recalls per year
Kiplinger’s NHTSA-based analysis lists one recall during the prior ten years and an expected 0.1 recalls per year for the Lexus NX 300h. This is a historical recall-frequency signal for a specific model, not the 2025 NX Hybrid’s Consumer Reports score.
For a used NX 300h, inspect the individual vehicle identification number (VIN) for open campaigns and verify that recall repairs were completed.
Rank #3
6. Lexus IS 300 — two recalls in 10 years; 0.2 expected recalls per year
The Lexus IS 300 appears in the same recall analysis with two recalls over the prior ten years and 0.2 expected recalls per year. The result can help narrow a used-car search, but it does not measure routine repairs, owner complaints or maintenance cost.

7. Lexus RX 450h — seven recalls in 10 years; 0.7 expected recalls per year
The Lexus RX 450h recorded seven recalls in the cited ten-year analysis, with 0.7 expected recalls per year. Recall count alone cannot tell you whether the campaigns were minor or safety-critical, whether they were promptly repaired, or how the vehicle was maintained.
Its conventional-hybrid powertrain should not be evaluated using the higher plug-in-hybrid average from J.D. Power; those are different systems.
8. Mercedes-Benz GLA — five recalls in 10 years; 0.5 expected recalls per year
The Mercedes-Benz GLA has five recalls in the prior ten years and 0.5 expected recalls per year in the cited analysis. The figure is a historical proxy for recall exposure, not a prediction that every GLA will develop five mechanical problems.
9. Mercedes-Benz CLA — 12 recalls in 10 years; 1.2 expected recalls per year
The Mercedes-Benz CLA’s 12 recalls and 1.2 expected recalls per year are the highest recall figures among the models listed in that analysis. Treat that as a reason to perform a particularly careful VIN and repair-history check, not as a stand-alone verdict on the car’s overall quality.

10. Maserati GranTurismo — six recalls in 10 years; 0.6 expected recalls per year
The Maserati GranTurismo records six recalls in the prior ten years and 0.6 expected recalls per year. A recall tally cannot establish long-term running cost, parts availability or mechanical durability, so a used example needs a specialist inspection and complete service documentation.
Which luxury car is the most reliable in 2025?
If you mean the highest model score in the cited Consumer Reports 2025 list, the answer is the BMW i4 at 83/100. If you mean the strongest premium-brand result in J.D. Power’s three-year dependability study, the answer is Lexus at 140 PP100. If you mean the lowest recall exposure among the used models listed here, the Lexus NX 300h has the smallest count at one recall in the prior ten years.
Those answers differ because they measure different things, model years and ownership periods. A buyer should choose the result that matches the purchase: Consumer Reports for an expectation about a new model, J.D. Power for problems reported after three years, and recall data for campaign exposure on a used vehicle.
Which luxury SUV has the fewest problems?
The available evidence does not establish one universal SUV winner. The 2025 Lexus NX scores 77/100 and the NX Hybrid 76/100 in Consumer Reports’ forecast. The Lexus GX received a J.D. Power model-level dependability award, but its PP100 is not stated here. In the recall analysis, the Lexus NX 300h had one recall in ten years, compared with seven for the Lexus RX 450h and five for the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Are Lexus hybrids reliable?
The evidence is favorable but not universal. The 2025 Lexus NX Hybrid’s Consumer Reports predicted-reliability score is 76/100, and the older Lexus NX 300h has one recall in the cited ten-year analysis. J.D. Power’s industry data also show conventional hybrids at 199 PP100, slightly better than gasoline vehicles at 200 PP100 and substantially better than plug-in hybrids at 242 PP100.
These numbers support treating conventional Lexus hybrids as a strong reliability candidate, not assuming that every Lexus hybrid, plug-in hybrid or model year will perform identically. Check the exact powertrain, warranty terms and VIN-specific recall status.
Is the BMW i4 dependable?
The i4 has a strong 2025 Consumer Reports predicted-reliability score of 83/100, the highest score among the explicitly luxury models in the cited list. That is the best available evidence here for the new i4, but it is not a three-year J.D. Power result and does not provide a model-specific recall total.
For a purchase decision, pair the score with an inspection of charging equipment, software and service records, and verify any open safety campaigns for the exact VIN. The industry-wide EV PP100 average of 223 is context, not an i4 failure rate.
What to check before buying a used luxury car
- Run the VIN through the official NHTSA recall lookup. Confirm open recalls and check invoices or dealer records showing completed repairs. Recall databases change, so do this for the specific vehicle immediately before purchase.
- Match the evidence to the vehicle. Verify model year, generation, trim and powertrain. A 2025 NX Hybrid score does not automatically apply to an older NX 300h, and a brand result does not replace a model inspection.
- Read the service history. Look for regular fluid, brake, tire and scheduled-service records, plus documentation for hybrid or EV-specific work where applicable.
- Inspect expensive wear items. Have an independent technician evaluate tires, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, electronics and signs of collision or water damage. Premium parts and labor can cost more even when reliability is good.
- Check coverage before signing. Compare the remaining factory warranty, hybrid-system or battery coverage, certified-pre-owned terms and any transferable service plan.
- Budget for ownership, not just repairs. A car can avoid major failures yet still require costly tires, brakes, insurance and scheduled maintenance. Price those items for the exact model and wheel configuration.
- Test every system. Verify warning lights, driver-assistance features, climate control, infotainment, charging operation on an EV and all keys. A clean diagnostic scan is useful, but it does not replace a physical inspection.
How much confidence should you place in each source?
- Highest relevance to a new-car shortlist: the Consumer Reports predicted-reliability score for the exact 2025 model.
- Best for an ownership track record: J.D. Power’s three-year survey, remembering that it covers 2022 vehicles and 34,175 original owners.
- Best for recall screening: VIN-level NHTSA results. A model-level recall count is only a starting point.
- Least safe assumption: treating any one score, award or recall count as a guarantee for a particular used car.
J.D. Power director Jason Norton attributed the 2025 increase in reported problems partly to disruptions affecting vehicles built during the industry’s difficult production period. That context is another reason to check the model year and individual vehicle rather than extrapolating from a single headline number.
Recalls should also be handled constructively: AutoTrader executive editor Brian Moody noted that “Recalls are a good thing, because it means the system works as designed.” Completing a recall campaign removes a known safety issue; it does not by itself predict the car’s broader maintenance needs.
