The President’s Cadillac limousine is a custom-built vehicle developed to Secret Service requirements—not a showroom Cadillac with extra options. General Motors says the current generation, styled after the Cadillac CT6, debuted in 2018. Its custom identity and history are documented; many security details come from media reporting, and a complete current specification is not public. Here are ten features and defining characteristics, with those evidence limits made clear.
What is the President’s Cadillac limo?
General Motors describes the presidential limousine as a custom vehicle developed by its research and development team to Secret Service requirements. The 2018 generation is modeled after the Cadillac CT6, but that wording describes its styling; it does not establish that the limo is a production CT6 underneath. GM dates the current version’s debut to 2018 and says “The Beast” was first used as a nickname for the Bush-era car in 2001. General Motors’ history of the presidential limousine provides the manufacturer’s account.
The distinction matters: the public record does not provide a complete technical specification for the current car. The following ten points therefore combine documented identity and history with features described in reporting. Earlier-generation details are identified rather than presented as confirmed equipment on today’s limo.
Ten features and defining characteristics
1. A custom-built Cadillac identity — documented
This is not a factory model available to the public. GM says its research and development team developed the vehicle to Secret Service requirements. The car’s Cadillac identity is real, but its bespoke construction makes “a Cadillac with bolt-on armor” an inaccurate shorthand. GM’s account establishes the custom-build description.

2. CT6-inspired styling — documented, not a production CT6 platform claim
GM says the current generation is modeled after the Cadillac CT6. That supports a design relationship, not the claim that the presidential car is a regular CT6 with a known set of modifications. Public materials do not disclose its complete underlying engineering or specifications. GM identifies the CT6 as the styling model.
3. An armored body and reinforced doors — reported
CBS coverage of the vehicle introduced in 2018 described heavy armor and reinforced doors. Those descriptions help explain the limo’s protective role, but the report does not make an exact armor thickness or protection rating an official published specification. Such figures should not be treated as verified facts about the current vehicle. CBS News Texas reported on the 2018 limousine.

4. Protective glazing — reported, construction undisclosed
Reporting associates presidential limousines with armor glass, but the reviewed public material does not establish the current car’s glass layers, thickness, or rating. It is reasonable to describe protective glazing as a reported feature category, not to attach an unsupported specification to it. CBS’s 2018 report discusses the new vehicle’s protective construction without publishing those glass details.
5. Onboard oxygen — reported
CBS’s 2018 report mentions oxygen aboard the new limousine. It does not establish a specific activation scenario, a cabin-sealing standard, or a capability against a particular chemical or biological threat. Those stronger claims go beyond what that report confirms. The report’s description is the basis for this limited claim.

6. Run-flat mobility — described for an earlier generation
CBS reported reinforced run-flat tires and steel wheels on the Obama-era limousine in 2013. That is evidence about an earlier generation, not proof that the current 2018-generation vehicle uses the same tire or wheel system. The exact current setup is not established in the public sources cited here. CBS’s 2013 coverage describes the earlier car.
7. Night-vision optics — described for an earlier generation
Night vision also appears in CBS’s coverage of the 2009-era limo. It should not be transferred automatically to the current car: the reviewed public sources do not publish night-vision equipment as a confirmed specification for the 2018 generation. The feature appears in CBS’s reporting on the earlier limousine.

8. Defensive systems — reported, specifics not confirmed
Later reporting describes defensive systems associated with the current generation, but the public account reviewed here does not verify particular devices or explain their capabilities. Broad claims about weapons, smoke screens, or other dramatic systems should not be presented as established equipment on the basis of that general reporting. The War Zone’s 2024 report discusses the limo’s systems.
9. An extensive communications suite — reported
Defense reporting describes an extensive communications suite, fitting the vehicle’s role in presidential transportation. It does not provide a verified list of current radios, networks, or functions, so naming specific hardware would exceed what the public source establishes. The War Zone’s account is the basis for this general description.

10. A place in a long presidential Cadillac tradition — documented
GM traces the story back to Woodrow Wilson riding in a 1916 Cadillac Series 53 during a 1919 parade. It says two Cadillac convertibles named Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth first served in 1938; those historical cars measured 21.5 feet and weighed 7,660 pounds. Those figures describe the 1938 convertibles, not the modern limo. GM separately dates the first use of “The Beast” to the 2001 Bush-era car, a Cadillac One redesign to 2009, and the CT6-inspired current generation to 2018. GM’s history distinguishes these chapters.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the public record does—and does not—establish
GM’s public account establishes the custom build, Secret Service requirements, CT6-inspired styling, and the 2018 debut. Media reports offer additional details, but their claims vary by vehicle generation and do not amount to an official, comprehensive specification for the current car. The Secret Service does not publish a full current technical specification in the sources cited here.
That is why viral lists should be read cautiously. Exact weight, price, armor thickness, ballistic rating, engine specification, and particular defensive capabilities are not established by these sources. A detail reported for the 2009-era vehicle may be interesting history, but it is not evidence that the same equipment is installed today.
