No motorcycle lasts forever, and a model name alone cannot promise a long service life. But riders looking for a Honda that could make a durable long-term companion can start with these 10 candidates, spanning touring, commuting and off-road use. This is a practical shortlist—not a measured reliability ranking: the condition and service history of the individual bike matter more than an unsupported claim about its maximum mileage.
What “lasting practically forever” really means
Honda UK says: “Our engines are known for being almost indestructible and capable of covering very high mileage, due to their smooth power delivery and low vibration.” That is the manufacturer’s promotional claim, not an independent test result or a mileage guarantee. No verified comparative study establishes that these 10 models outlast other motorcycles.
Honda’s model catalog confirms that manuals are available for several motorcycles below; catalog inclusion verifies model identity and manual availability, not unusual durability. The list is best read as a set of candidates to investigate for different kinds of riding—not as proof that every example will reach a particular mileage.
10 Honda motorcycles to consider for the long haul
1. Honda Gold Wing — long-distance touring
A touring candidate for riders who want a motorcycle designed around extended road trips. A used Gold Wing’s condition, service records and the availability of local parts and service deserve close attention; its place on this list is not a guarantee of lifespan.

2. Honda Super Cub C125 — everyday riding
The Super Cub is a practical candidate for regular local trips. Honda’s corporate history reports that the Super Cub series reached 100 million units in cumulative global production in 2017, 59 years after its 1958 launch. That is a production milestone—not evidence of how long an individual Super Cub lasts.
3. Honda Africa Twin — adventure touring
The Africa Twin may suit riders who split their time between paved roads and more challenging routes. How many miles one will last depends on the particular motorcycle’s upkeep, use and condition; the model name cannot answer that on its own.

- 2 Visors Included: Clear + Smoked and 1 Neck Scarf for Winter Use
- Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
- Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell

4. Honda NC750X — commuting and general road use
The NC750X is another candidate to consider for commuting and everyday road riding. Check that its service history and condition fit your intended use, and consult the manual for the exact model year rather than relying on a general schedule.
5. Honda XR650L — simpler off-road-oriented riding
For riders looking at an off-road-oriented motorcycle, the XR650L is a candidate worth researching. How it has been ridden and maintained is especially relevant when assessing an individual used bike; this shortlist does not establish a model-specific mileage record.

6. Honda Rebel 500 — approachable road riding
The Rebel 500 offers a different riding format from the touring and adventure candidates. Consider manageability, service access and local parts support alongside the motorcycle’s documented maintenance and present condition.
7. Honda CB — road-bike candidate
Honda’s US owner-manual catalog includes several CB motorcycles. Because CB identifies a range rather than one specific model, verify the exact name, year and market of the motorcycle you are considering, then use its matching manual.
Rank #4

8. Honda CRF — off-road and dual-purpose candidates
Honda’s manual catalog also includes several CRF motorcycles. The family covers different models, so do not assume that guidance or expected use for one CRF applies to another. Identify the exact bike and year before evaluating maintenance needs.
9. Another CB model that fits your use
A second CB may be worth considering if a different size or style better suits your riding. Treat it as a separate purchase decision: confirm its precise model and year, check the individual bike’s records, and compare the upkeep it requires with your ability to maintain it.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose among them
These are buyer considerations, not measured reliability scores. Use them to narrow the candidates to the kind of motorcycle you can keep properly maintained.
- Intended use: Match the motorcycle to touring, commuting, road riding or off-road use. A mismatch can make even a well-maintained bike a poor long-term choice.
- Weight and manageability: Consider whether the motorcycle is comfortable to handle in the situations you regularly face, including low-speed riding and parking.
- Mechanical and electronic complexity: Think about the systems you are prepared to maintain and the technical support available near you.
- Maintenance access and requirements: Check the model- and year-specific manual for service intervals, specifications and procedures. A maintenance task being listed does not mean every owner should perform it.
- Parts and service support: Confirm that appropriate parts and knowledgeable service are available in your area, particularly for an older or less common model.
- The specific motorcycle: Give service documentation, present condition, storage and prior use more weight than a reputation attached to a model name.
Maintenance matters more than a longevity slogan
Honda’s maintenance guidance names items including engine oil, oil filters, spark plugs, air cleaners, coolant, final-drive oil and brake components. Which items apply, what specification to use and when to service them depend on the motorcycle and model year. Use the owner’s manual for the exact bike rather than applying a generic interval.
For a used motorcycle, look for records that show what was serviced and when. If maintenance history is incomplete, have a qualified mechanic assess the bike before purchase and identify any work it needs. Do not treat an owner’s manual as a substitute for professional help with technical procedures beyond your experience.
