There is no perfectly clean, manufacturer-certified 1-to-10 speed ranking for new production motorcycles. Kawasaki does not publish a number for the Ninja H2R, Ducati quotes two different figures for the Panigale V4 R depending on exhaust, and several manufacturers use only phrases such as “over 300 km/h.”
The list below therefore ranks motorcycles currently listed by their manufacturers, using the strongest available speed evidence. Street-legal and closed-course motorcycles are identified separately, and unofficial figures are not presented as factory specifications. Research checked August 9, 2026.

How this fastest-motorcycle list is ranked
“Currently on sale” means the manufacturer still lists the motorcycle and provides a purchase, dealer-contact, or order path. It does not mean every dealer has one in stock. That distinction matters for limited-production bikes such as the MV Agusta Rush 1000 and the Ducati Panigale V4 R.

A rounded threshold such as “over 300 km/h” cannot be used to separate two motorcycles from one another, while a model with no current factory top-speed figure is included for context rather than assigned an invented number.

*The H2R is placed first because widely reported real-world figures make it the obvious speed leader among current production motorcycles, but Kawasaki does not officially publish the often-repeated 400 km/h (249 mph) claim. It should not be described as an official Kawasaki specification.
1. Kawasaki Ninja H2R ABS
The Ninja H2R is the motorcycle most people expect to see at the top of a fastest-bike list, but its headline number needs careful handling. Kawasaki’s current listing describes its top speed as suitable only for the track and does not provide a numerical maximum speed. The frequently repeated 400 km/h or 249 mph figure is not a current Kawasaki production specification.

What is confirmed is more important for buyers: the 2026 Ninja H2R ABS is a limited-production, supercharged, closed-course motorcycle. It is not street legal, cannot be treated as a road-going alternative to the Ninja H2, and should be compared with track machinery rather than with registered superbikes.
Kawasaki lists the Ninja H2R ABS here.
2. Ducati Panigale V4 R
The Panigale V4 R is the fastest current motorcycle on this list with a precise manufacturer-published figure for standard configuration. Ducati quotes 318.4 km/h (197.8 mph).
Ducati also quotes 330.6 km/h (205.4 mph), but that figure requires the racing exhaust. Because that exhaust is not approved for road use, 330.6 km/h is a track-only configuration and not the road-legal specification. The distinction is easy to miss in a speed-focused comparison, but it changes what a buyer can legally ride on public roads.
The 2026 Panigale V4 R is road homologated and remains a current Ducati model. It is an uncompromising superbike, with the purchase decision involving far more than maximum speed: running costs, riding position, tire wear and the rider’s ability to use its performance all matter.

3=. MV Agusta Rush 1000
MV Agusta specifies the Rush 1000 at over 300 km/h (186 mph). That places it in the same published speed bracket as the Brutale 1000 RR, but the available data does not justify saying one is faster than the other.
The Rush is a naked motorcycle, so it reaches that figure without the full aerodynamic bodywork of a Panigale or BMW superbike. It is also not a normal-volume model: MV Agusta’s current material states that production is limited to 300 units. The model remains in the manufacturer’s range with dealer and purchase information, although actual availability depends heavily on market and allocation.
Its limited production makes “currently on sale” a manufacturer-listing description rather than a promise that a local dealer can deliver one immediately.

3=. MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR
The Brutale 1000 RR is the second MV Agusta in the tied over-300-km/h group. MV Agusta specifies over 300 km/h (186 mph) and gives the bike a claimed 0-to-200-km/h time of 8.30 seconds.
That acceleration figure helps explain the Brutale’s place on this list, but it is not a substitute for a more precise top-speed test. MV Agusta does not publish a specific maximum beyond the “over 300 km/h” threshold.
The 2026 Brutale 1000 RR has a current U.S. technical sheet and an active dealer-contact route. Unlike the Rush, it is a road-legal motorcycle intended to be used as an exceptionally fast naked bike rather than as a closed-course-only machine.
MV Agusta’s 2026 technical sheet is the source for its published figures.

BMW gives the current M 1000 RR a maximum speed of 189 mph, or approximately 304 km/h. That makes it the fastest motorcycle in this group with a clear current BMW-published speed figure.

- High Resistance ABS Shell With Micrometrically Adjustable Strap

- Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
- Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
- Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor
The M 1000 RR is a road-legal superbike homologated for racing, so its specification sits close to the boundary between a registration-plate motorcycle and a dedicated circuit machine. Its aerodynamic equipment, electronic rider aids and high-revving engine are designed for speed that is difficult to use responsibly outside a track.
BMW currently provides a model page and a “Contact Dealer” purchase path. The current 189-mph figure also corrects an outdated claim that the M 1000 RR is limited to 186 mph.
See BMW’s current M 1000 RR model page.
6. BMW S 1000 RR
The S 1000 RR is only 1 mph behind its M-badged sibling on BMW’s published figures, with a claimed top speed of 188 mph (approximately 303 km/h). It is a road-legal superbike and remains one of the most straightforward ways to buy a current motorcycle capable of exceeding 300 km/h.
The S 1000 RR is less specialized than the M 1000 RR, but “less specialized” should not be confused with slow. At this performance level, the practical differences are more likely to involve equipment, chassis setup, aerodynamic specification, price and track use than a meaningful difference in public-road capability.
BMW’s current S 1000 RR page lists its technical data and purchase path.
7. Aprilia RSV4 Factory 1100
The RSV4 Factory 1100 belongs in this company on its engine and chassis credentials, but Aprilia does not publish a current numerical maximum speed on the 2026 product page. It specifies 220 hp from a 1,099 cc V4 and describes the motorcycle as street legal.
Third-party claims around 300 km/h are widely repeated, but they should not be presented as Aprilia’s current factory specification. The motorcycle’s page does confirm a road-and-track speed-management function and a removable license-plate holder for track use, showing how closely the Factory version is aimed at circuit riding without making it a track-only bike.
For that reason, the RSV4 Factory is included as a current high-performance model but cannot be given a defensible exact position based on top speed alone.

8. Ducati Panigale V4 and V4 S
Ducati’s current U.S. product page does not publish a numerical top-speed figure for the Panigale V4 or V4 S. It does specify a 1,103 cc engine producing 209 hp, and both models remain available to configure and purchase.
Figures of roughly 193 mph appear frequently in older reviews and online specifications, but they are not a current Ducati-published maximum. They may be independent test results or estimates, and should be labeled that way rather than presented as the official number for the current motorcycle.
Both versions are road motorcycles. The V4 S adds equipment intended to improve performance and control, but neither should be confused with the V4 R’s separately documented speed and racing-exhaust configuration.
Ducati’s current Panigale V4 page covers the V4 and V4 S.

The road-legal Ninja H2 is the civilised counterpart to the H2R, using Kawasaki’s supercharged-engine technology in a motorcycle that can be registered and ridden on public roads. Kawasaki currently lists the 2026 Ninja H2 ABS as a street-legal model.
Kawasaki does not publish a current numerical top-speed figure for it. Online numbers such as 209 mph are common, but there is no current Kawasaki specification in the supplied model material that supports presenting 209 mph as an official figure.
The distinction between the two H2 models is critical: the H2 is street legal; the H2R is closed-course only. Treating the H2R’s reputation or reported test figures as the H2’s factory road specification produces a misleading comparison.

10. Suzuki Hayabusa
The Hayabusa remains one of the defining high-speed production motorcycles and is still sold as a current road-legal model. Suzuki’s 2026 materials do not state a numerical top speed, however, so this list does not attach a made-up factory figure to it.
The motorcycle remains electronically speed restricted under the long-standing industry limit. Suzuki’s new Active Speed Limiter lets the rider set a lower ceiling; it is not evidence that the factory bike has gained a higher unrestricted top speed.
For U.S. buyers, Suzuki lists a 2026 MSRP of $19,499, plus a $700 destination charge. That makes the Hayabusa a very different proposition from the six-figure, limited-allocation machines near the top of the list, even though its performance reputation is just as established.

What is actually the fastest?
The answer depends on the rules:
- Fastest current road-legal motorcycle with a precise manufacturer-published figure: Ducati Panigale V4 R at 318.4 km/h (197.8 mph) in standard configuration.
- Fastest published figure including non-road equipment: Ducati Panigale V4 R at 330.6 km/h (205.4 mph) with the racing exhaust. That setup is not road approved.
- Fastest current closed-course motorcycle by commonly reported figures: Kawasaki Ninja H2R, although the often-quoted 400-km/h figure is not confirmed by Kawasaki as an official production specification.
- Fastest naked motorcycles with an official manufacturer claim: MV Agusta Rush 1000 and Brutale 1000 RR, both specified at over 300 km/h.
The practical lesson is that top-speed lists are only as reliable as their measurement labels. A tested figure, an electronic limiter, a rounded threshold and a track-only race kit are not interchangeable data points.
FAQ
What is the fastest production motorcycle currently on sale?
The Kawasaki Ninja H2R is generally regarded as the fastest current production motorcycle by commonly reported real-world figures, but Kawasaki does not publish an official numerical top speed. Among current motorcycles with a precise manufacturer-published road-legal figure, the Ducati Panigale V4 R is fastest at 318.4 km/h (197.8 mph) in standard configuration.
Is the Kawasaki Ninja H2R street legal?
No. The Ninja H2R is a limited-production, closed-course motorcycle. It is not legal for public-road use. The related Ninja H2 ABS is the street-legal model.
Does the Ducati Panigale V4 R really do 205 mph?
Ducati quotes 330.6 km/h (205.4 mph) with a racing exhaust, but that exhaust is not approved for road use. In standard configuration, Ducati quotes 318.4 km/h (197.8 mph).
Why is the Hayabusa not listed with its usual top-speed number?
Suzuki’s current 2026 materials do not publish a numerical maximum speed. The Hayabusa remains electronically speed restricted, but current product information does not support presenting an older or commonly repeated number as Suzuki’s official specification.
The Bottom Line
The Ducati Panigale V4 R is the fastest current road-legal production motorcycle with a precise factory-published speed: 197.8 mph in standard form. The Kawasaki Ninja H2R is the likely outright speed champion among motorcycles still sold, but its familiar 249-mph claim is not an official Kawasaki specification and the bike is track-only. For every other model, the useful comparison requires separating exact figures from rounded claims, independent estimates and equipment that cannot legally be used on the road.
