Key takeaways
- These companies represent four different routes to electrification: bespoke finished-car conversions, vehicle-specific drop-in kits, integrated powertrain systems, and parts-plus-installation services.
- Peace Vans (2026) publishes a $49,995 standard package, approximately 70–90 miles of entry-level range, and a typical three- to four-month project duration for eligible air-cooled Volkswagen vehicles.
- Moment Motor Company (2026) publishes an approximate $75,000–$150,000 Classic Line range and an approximately one-year waiting period, showing how expensive a restoration-grade bespoke build can become.
- Electric Classic Cars (2026) lists a 37-kWh Beetle battery pack and company-reported tested range of up to 150 miles under stated conditions; the company says its kits are for approved specialist workshops, not DIY installation.
- EV West (2026) estimates $16,000–$19,000 in parts for a small, light classic or sports car, but that figure is not the price of a complete finished conversion.
What do these 10 companies actually sell?
There is no universal EV-conversion recipe. Battery packaging, vehicle weight, driveline geometry, braking, suspension, charging, thermal management, and local inspection requirements all affect whether a donor car is suitable and what the finished project will cost.
A 2023 Environment Agency Austria ConVErT retrofit-company appendix lists passenger-car and classic-car battery-electric retrofit businesses, including Electric Classic Cars, EVDrive, eClassics, and London Electric Cars. The appendix supports the existence of an established specialist category, but it is not a ranking, market-size study, or guarantee that every listed company currently accepts every vehicle.

10 companies that can convert selected cars into EVs
1. Everrati: an engineering platform for specialist builders
Everrati’s Powered by Everrati division describes modular electric powertrain systems and EV technology platforms for OEMs, niche manufacturers, and specialist vehicle builders. Everrati is therefore less comparable to a local conversion garage and more comparable to an engineering partner that helps integrate an electric platform into a low-volume vehicle program.
Everrati is a sensible starting point when the project involves repeated production, a niche vehicle manufacturer, or a specialist builder that needs adaptable motor and battery configurations. A private owner should first establish whether an Everrati partner will accept a single donor car, whether the provider delivers the finished vehicle, and who handles fabrication, testing, inspection, and after-sales support.
2. Electrogenic: drop-in kits for supported classic cars
Electrogenic manufactures complete drop-in EV conversion kits for a range of classic cars. A repeatable, vehicle-specific system can reduce the amount of one-off fabrication compared with a completely bespoke conversion, but the advantage applies only when the donor matches a supported application.
Ask Electrogenic or the installing workshop for the exact model, year, battery configuration, charging equipment, braking requirements, suspension changes, registration pathway, warranty, and installation qualifications. A drop-in kit is not a universal kit, and the phrase does not mean that a vehicle can be converted without professional engineering.
3. Electric Classic Cars: bespoke builds and approved-workshop kits
Electric Classic Cars says it specializes in conversions of classic cars from the 1950s to the early 1980s. The company offers tailor-made conversions and lists bolt-in kits for the Land Rover Defender, Classic Mini, Porsche 914, Porsche 911, Ferrari Testarossa, VW Beetle, and VW Camper.
“At Electric Classic CarsTM we are leading experts in electric conversions of classic cars from the ‘50s to early ‘80s.”
Electric Classic Cars, company description
The company’s Beetle kit page specifies a 37-kWh battery pack, 7-kW AC Type 2 charging, and an integrated battery-management system. According to Electric Classic Cars (2026), the cited Beetle system has a claimed tested range of up to 150 miles, although range varies with conditions and the stated figure excludes motorway driving. The figure is company-reported, not an independent road test.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsElectric Classic Cars says its kits are available only to specialist conversion workshops and are not intended for DIY installation. That makes Electric Classic Cars relevant both to classic owners seeking a finished conversion and to approved professional workshops looking for a repeatable system.
4. Moment Motor Company: broad bespoke classic-car transformations
Moment Motor Company’s Classic process covers acquisition and assessment, removal of the internal-combustion engine, engineering and manufacturing, enhancement, assembly and installation, and testing. Moment says the process can transform a wide variety of classic cars, so this is the bespoke route rather than a fixed kit for one narrow platform.

Moment Motor Company, Classic Line page
According to Moment Motor Company (2026), the published Classic Line estimate is approximately $75,000–$150,000, with an approximately one-year waiting period. The estimate is company-specific and should not be treated as an average market price. Donor condition, restoration work, battery size, performance targets, and custom fabrication can all change the final scope.

5. Peace Vans: a specialist for air-cooled Volkswagens
Peace Vans operates an electric-conversion business focused on air-cooled Volkswagen vehicles, including Beetles, Ghias, Things, and buses. The company is the clearest match in this list for an owner whose main question is, “Can I convert a VW bus to electric?” The answer is potentially yes for an eligible vehicle, subject to inspection and configuration.
“We are converting all VW vehicles—Beetles, Bugs, Ghias, and our beloved Buses.”
Peace Vans, electric-conversions page
According to Peace Vans (2026), the standard conversion package is $49,995, the entry-level battery package provides approximately 70–90 miles depending on vehicle type and configuration, and a typical project takes three to four months. Peace Vans also says many completed projects end closer to $65,000 after additional work.
Those figures are useful for initial budgeting, but they are not directly comparable with a parts-only estimate or a luxury restoration commission. Confirm the donor’s mechanical condition, the battery package, charging setup, expected range, extra restoration work, and the company’s current service geography before shipping or purchasing a vehicle.
6. Electric GT / TREMEC Electric GT: integrated e-Crate systems
Electric GT, also identified as TREMEC Electric GT, describes complete plug-and-play EV solutions for a growing set of vehicle applications. Its e-Crate systems are presented as integrated packages containing motors, controllers, battery modules, engineered enclosures, battery-management modules, thermal management, fuses, onboard charging, DC conversion, and high-voltage wiring and controls.
That integration can be valuable to a specialist builder that does not want to source every high-voltage component separately. However, “plug-and-play” does not mean that any car becomes a bolt-in project. The installer still needs to confirm fitment, mounting, driveline geometry, battery packaging, cooling, brakes, suspension, charging, wiring, inspection, and final commissioning.
7. Lunaz: luxury restoration combined with electrification
Lunaz’s upcycled electric-vehicle process begins with exhaustive restoration and combines traditional coachbuilding with modern manufacturing. Lunaz says its electric classics use an in-house engineered powertrain and may include power steering, uprated brakes and suspension, air conditioning, and modern infotainment such as Apple CarPlay.

Lunaz is best considered when the goal is a restoration-grade electric classic with modern usability rather than the lowest-cost way to replace an engine. The important comparison is not only battery range or motor output. Compare donor-car provenance, the amount of body and interior restoration, powertrain specification, usability equipment, production allocation, and whether the purchase is a bespoke commission or an available finished car.

8. Legacy EV: commercial conversions, kits, and training
Legacy EV provides a commercial conversion-request path and documents gas-to-electric repower programs. Its EV Build program includes a custom conversion kit, OEM safety features, programmable controllers, instructor training, online modules, and high-voltage safety certifications for educational settings.
Legacy EV is therefore a particularly relevant lead for commercial conversion inquiries, schools, and installers seeking a structured training or support program. A private owner should verify which offering applies to a privately owned vehicle; the educational and commercial pathways should not be assumed to be identical to a consumer turnkey conversion.
9. ReVolt Systems: performance-oriented classic electrification
ReVolt Systems positions its electric-power business around adding performance while complementing classic-car aesthetics. Its site features a Mustang project, and its installer information describes certified EV-conversion professionals and reseller relationships.
ReVolt is most relevant to a performance-oriented classic build, particularly an American muscle project. Ask for the complete system specification rather than only a motor figure: battery capacity, expected range, output, thermal management, chassis changes, brake upgrades, charging equipment, installer location, and whether the quoted product is a kit or a finished conversion.

10. EV West: parts, kits, installation, and professional builds
EV West identifies conversion kits, parts, and installation services as its primary business. The company serves experienced builders and project-car owners who need components and technical support, while also offering professional builds.
According to EV West (2026), professional builds commonly take two to three months, and each build receives a company range test before delivery. EV West also publishes an estimated $16,000–$19,000 in parts for a small, light classic or sports car. That estimate is for parts, not labor, restoration, registration, shipping, or a complete finished vehicle.
How much does it cost to convert a classic car to electric?
The supplied company figures range from a parts estimate of $16,000–$19,000 to bespoke projects quoted at approximately $75,000–$150,000, with another company noting that a larger 200-mile-range conversion may exceed £150,000. The figures describe different companies, currencies, vehicle types, battery targets, and scopes of work, so they are examples rather than a market average.
| Published figure | What it covers | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| EV West (2026): $16,000–$19,000 | Estimated parts for a small/light classic or sports car | Not a complete conversion price; labor and restoration are separate questions |
| Peace Vans (2026): $49,995 standard package | Standard electric-conversion package for eligible air-cooled Volkswagens | Peace Vans says many projects finish closer to $65,000 after additional work |
| Moment Motor Company (2026): approximately $75,000–$150,000 | Approximate Classic Line bespoke-conversion range | Not a universal quote; waiting period is approximately one year and project scope varies |
| Electric Classic Cars (2026): more than £150,000 for a larger 200-mile-range project | Company FAQ example for a higher-range conversion | Not a standard price for every model or a guarantee of 200 miles in real-world use |
According to Electric Classic Cars (2026), a larger project targeting 200 miles may cost more than £150,000. The company-specific figure illustrates how range targets can expand battery, packaging, cooling, structural, and integration requirements; it should not be used as a quote for a Beetle or any other donor without a vehicle assessment.

Is an EV conversion kit really plug and play?
An EV conversion kit is only plug and play within the vehicle application and installation assumptions for which the kit was engineered. The phrase does not mean that a generic kit fits every car, that the battery can be installed without structural work, or that a completed vehicle is automatically inspected and road legal.
Vehicle-specific products from Electrogenic and Electric Classic Cars are more repeatable than a one-off fabrication project, but fitment still needs to be confirmed. Electric Classic Cars explicitly limits its kits to approved specialist companies and says they are not suitable for DIY installation. Electric GT’s integrated systems include high-voltage and battery-management equipment, which makes correct system integration and qualified handling essential.
Use the phrase EV conversion kit as a category description, not as a promise of easy consumer installation. Before paying a deposit, request the installation manual or scope, supported donor list, battery and voltage configuration, charging requirements, thermal-management plan, brake and suspension requirements, testing process, warranty, and documentation needed for local approval.
Which company is the best fit for your project?
No single company is the best choice for every donor vehicle. Match the company’s business model to the job you actually want completed.
| If your priority is… | Start by comparing… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A supported classic platform and less one-off fabrication | Electrogenic and Electric Classic Cars | Both document repeatable, vehicle-specific or bolt-in kit routes, subject to supported-model and workshop confirmation |
| A bespoke classic with extensive restoration | Moment Motor Company, Lunaz, and Electric Classic Cars | These routes are more appropriate for restoration scope, custom engineering, and finished-vehicle presentation |
| An air-cooled VW bus or related Volkswagen | Peace Vans | Its published service is centered on Beetles, Ghias, Things, and buses |
| A low-volume manufacturing or specialist integration program | Everrati and Electric GT | Both describe modular or integrated powertrain systems intended for builders and integrators rather than only private owners |
| Performance-oriented classic electrification | ReVolt Systems and suitable specialist installers | ReVolt emphasizes performance and documents professional installer relationships |
| Parts, technical support, or a professional build | EV West | EV West combines components, kits, installation, and professional builds |
| Commercial, educational, or installer training support | Legacy EV | Legacy EV documents commercial requests and an educational EV Build program with training and high-voltage safety certification |
For a private owner, a professional EV conversion company is usually the more appropriate comparison than a component supplier when the project involves a road-going classic, complex battery packaging, or substantial restoration. Even then, verify the provider’s current geography, capacity, donor acceptance, inspection support, and warranty before treating a website description as an offer for your specific car.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you ask before hiring a conversion company?
- Will you accept this exact donor? Provide the make, model, year, body style, drivetrain, condition, and location. Ask whether the company has a supported kit or needs a bespoke design.
- What is included in the quote? Separate the donor car, battery, motor, controller, charger, wiring, battery enclosure, cooling, labor, restoration, paint, interior, brakes, suspension, shipping, taxes, testing, registration, and post-delivery support.
- What range is being promised? Ask for the battery capacity, test conditions, driving assumptions, and whether the number is a company estimate or an independent result. Company-published range should not be treated as independently verified real-world range.
- What happens to the original drivetrain? Decide whether the engine, transmission, fuel system, exhaust, and other removed components are returned, stored, sold, or retained so the car can be reversed later.
- How much will the car’s character change? Confirm final weight, weight distribution, braking, suspension, steering, acceleration, regenerative-braking behavior, noise, and heat management. Preservation of the original driving character may conflict with maximum range or performance.
- Who performs high-voltage work? Ask for the installer’s qualifications, the company’s inspection and testing process, emergency-disconnect and service documentation, and the responsibility for future maintenance.
- Who handles local approval? Registration and inspection rules vary by jurisdiction. Get written confirmation of the documentation, tests, certifications, and modifications required where the converted vehicle will be driven.
- What is the schedule? Compare the promised start date, parts lead time, workshop duration, waiting list, shipping time, and the process for change orders if hidden rust or mechanical problems appear.
What does a typical conversion process involve?
The exact workflow varies, but a credible project should begin with donor assessment rather than a generic price promise. Moment’s published Classic process illustrates the broad sequence: acquisition and assessment, engine removal, engineering and manufacturing, enhancement, assembly and installation, and testing.
- Donor assessment: The company checks the vehicle’s structure, mechanical condition, available battery space, driveline geometry, and intended use.
- Project definition: The owner chooses priorities such as range, performance, preservation, reversibility, restoration, charging, and daily usability.
- System design: The builder selects the motor, battery configuration, controls, charger, enclosure, thermal management, and supporting chassis components.
- Removal and fabrication: The combustion powertrain and associated systems are removed, and mounts, enclosures, wiring, and other vehicle-specific parts are engineered or installed.
- Chassis and usability work: Braking, suspension, steering, cooling, climate control, interior equipment, and other systems are addressed according to the project scope.
- Testing and documentation: The finished vehicle is commissioned and tested. EV West, for example, says its professional builds receive a range test before delivery; ask every provider exactly what testing and documentation it supplies.
- Inspection and handover: The owner confirms local registration or inspection requirements, charging instructions, service procedures, warranty terms, and what happens if the battery or powertrain later needs repair.
What are the main risks and trade-offs?
Cost: A bespoke classic conversion can cost far more than a component estimate because restoration, fabrication, battery capacity, and labor are separate from the motor itself.
Range: More range generally requires more battery capacity and more space, weight, cooling, and integration work. The published figures in this roundup are company-specific and should not be read as independent comparisons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert any car to an EV?
No company in this roundup promises to convert every car. Feasibility depends on the donor’s structure, weight, available battery space, driveline geometry, braking, suspension, charging, thermal management, project budget, and local inspection requirements.
How much does it cost to convert a classic car to electric?
Published examples range from EV West’s $16,000–$19,000 parts estimate for a small or light classic or sports car to Moment Motor Company’s approximately $75,000–$150,000 bespoke Classic Line range. Peace Vans publishes a $49,995 standard package, while Electric Classic Cars says a larger 200-mile-range project may exceed £150,000; these figures cover different scopes and are not a market average.
Are EV conversion kits worth it?
An EV conversion kit can be worthwhile when it fits a supported vehicle and the owner values retaining a particular classic, but no universal value judgment applies. Compare the kit or service cost, restoration needs, range, charging, maintenance, approval requirements, reversibility, and professional installation before deciding.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan I install an automotive EV conversion kit myself?
DIY installation should not be assumed to be safe or permitted. Electric Classic Cars explicitly says its kits are supplied only to approved specialist workshops and are not intended for DIY installation, while integrated systems from suppliers such as Electric GT still require qualified vehicle integration and high-voltage expertise.
The Bottom Line
These are not ten interchangeable companies. Match a supported vehicle-specific kit, bespoke restoration service, integrated powertrain supplier, or professional installation route to your donor car and local approval requirements, then compare a written scope rather than a headline price.
