For a U.S. buyer with about $10,000 to spend, these ten used sports cars are a useful shortlist—not a promise that every example is currently available at that price or in good condition. The list comes from an Autotrader article published July 17, 2025. Local asking prices and availability vary, so compare the car’s layout and intended use, then verify the specific vehicle before buying.

Ten used sports cars to consider

The choices below span coupes, convertibles, sedans and roadsters. Their descriptions and horsepower figures are those reported by Autotrader; trim equipment and condition vary by individual car. None is presented as an objective ranking.

Model What to know Potential fit
2008 Audi TT Available as a coupe or convertible, with all-wheel drive available. Autotrader suggests considering 2005–2006 examples if a 2008 is difficult to find within budget. A compact sports car, with an all-wheel-drive option.
2011 BMW 1 Series Coupe or convertible with rear-wheel drive. Autotrader describes the 135i as having a 300-hp turbocharged inline-six and the 128i as a 230-hp option. A small rear-drive coupe or convertible, with different engine choices.
2012 Chevrolet Camaro Autotrader points to LS and LT V6 versions and describes the engine as producing 323 hp. A muscle-car-style coupe with the convenience of a relatively modern car, as characterized by the source.
2012 Dodge Challenger Autotrader characterizes it as more suited to straight-line driving. The V6 SXT is identified as the likely budget fit; an older or higher-mileage R/T may offer a 376-hp 5.7-liter V8. A larger coupe for shoppers who prioritize muscle-car character over cornering focus.
2011 Ford Mustang The article describes a 305-hp V6 and improved handling relative to earlier versions. A V6-powered muscle-car option.
2012 Honda Civic Si Autotrader presents it as driver-focused but usable for everyday driving, and says a 2013 example might also fit the budget. A practical choice for a buyer who wants a sporty car for regular use.
2011 Infiniti G37 Available as a coupe or sedan. Autotrader describes a 3.7-liter V6 producing 325 hp, rear-wheel drive and an available six-speed manual. A higher-powered choice with a sedan body option.
2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata A lightweight, open-top roadster. A two-seat convertible for drivers who want an open-air experience.
2006 Nissan 350Z Rear-wheel drive. Autotrader describes the manual version as having a 300-hp 3.5-liter V6 and the automatic as offering 287 hp. A rear-drive sports car with manual and automatic versions described by the source.
2008 Pontiac Solstice A compact roadster characterized by Autotrader as fun to drive, with Miata-like power and balance. Pontiac is no longer an active brand. An open-top alternative for a shopper considering a roadster.

How to choose among them

Start with what the car needs to do, rather than assuming one model is the best bargain for everyone.

  • Need an open top? The Miata and Solstice are roadsters; the TT and 1 Series are also described as available in convertible form.
  • Need more than two doors? The G37 is offered as a sedan as well as a coupe. The Civic Si may suit buyers looking for a driver-focused car with everyday usability.
  • Want all-weather traction? The TT has an all-wheel-drive option, according to Autotrader. Confirm the drivetrain on the individual car rather than assuming every example has it.
  • Prefer straight-line muscle? The Challenger is described as the more straight-line-oriented choice; the Camaro and Mustang add other muscle-car options.
  • Have a transmission preference? The G37 is described with an available six-speed manual, and the 350Z’s manual and automatic versions have different reported power figures. Check the exact car’s configuration.

A low asking price does not establish reliability, safety, or total ownership cost. The shortlist does not provide model-by-model reliability rankings, crash-safety comparisons, maintenance estimates, insurance costs or inspection results.

Check the actual car before buying

  1. Look up recalls by VIN or license plate. Use the NHTSA recall lookup for vehicle-specific information. NHTSA says an open recall should be repaired free by the manufacturer’s dealership. The agency reported 997 vehicle and equipment recalls in 2025, affecting more than 29 million vehicles in the United States; that nationwide count is context for checking recalls, not a risk estimate for any car on this list.
  2. Verify mileage evidence. NHTSA advises comparing the odometer reading with the title and maintenance or inspection records, and checking whether the vehicle’s wear appears consistent with the displayed mileage. Its odometer and vehicle-history guidance also recommends using the VIN to obtain a vehicle-history report if the seller cannot provide one.
  3. Arrange a qualified pre-purchase inspection. Have an independent mechanic assess the specific car before committing. A history report can provide useful records but is not a substitute for a mechanical inspection.
  4. Compare the complete purchase, not just the sticker price. Consider the car’s condition, records, equipment and suitability for your needs before deciding whether the asking price makes sense. The 2025 shortlist does not establish current prices or the condition of cars for sale.
