There is no single best motorcycle tire for every bike or ride. The right choice depends first on your motorcycle’s approved size and ratings, then on whether you need a sport, sport-touring, touring/cruiser, or adventure tire. This shortlist groups manufacturer-listed candidates by intended use; it is not a head-to-head performance ranking.
How to choose from this shortlist
Start with your motorcycle’s owner’s manual or the manufacturer’s fitment guide. Confirm the approved front and rear sizes, load index, and speed index before comparing models. Michelin says the tire must meet the bike’s speed requirement and carry the maximum loaded condition, including rider, passenger, and luggage. A tire in the same nominal size may still affect handling if it lacks a model-specific approval for your motorcycle. Michelin’s speed- and load-index guidance and tire-marking guidance explain what to check.
After fitment, decide how the bike is used: sport riding on pavement, longer road trips, a heavier touring or cruiser setup, or a mix of pavement and unpaved roads. Manufacturer catalogs identify the candidates below by category, but do not establish a controlled comparison across brands.
Sport-touring motorcycle tires
Sport-touring tires are candidates for riders who want a road tire for a sport-oriented motorcycle and longer-distance use. Check each exact model and size against your bike’s approved fitment.

Michelin Road 6 and Road 6 GT
Michelin lists the Road 6 family in its UK sports-tourer catalog. The Road 6 GT is a distinct variant in that range; neither name alone confirms that a tire is suitable for a particular motorcycle. See Michelin’s sports-tourer catalog.
Dunlop Roadsmart IV
Dunlop lists the Roadsmart IV in its sport-touring catalog. Treat it as a candidate for an approved size and application, not as a universal replacement. See Dunlop’s sport and touring catalog.
Bridgestone Battlax T33
The Battlax T33 appears in Bridgestone’s motorcycle tire model catalog. Confirm the available size, load and speed ratings, and bike fitment before choosing it. See Bridgestone’s model catalog.
Rank #2
- Expanded size range fits a wide variety of older bikes and cruisers. Tread compound delivers excellent balance of mileage and grip.
Pirelli Angel GT
Pirelli places the Angel family in its touring category, making the Angel GT a touring-oriented option to consider where the exact tire is approved for the motorcycle. See Pirelli’s touring catalog.

Touring and cruiser tires serve a different application from sport tires. In particular, verify the tire’s load index against the motorcycle’s maximum loaded condition rather than choosing by appearance or nominal size alone.
Michelin Commander III Touring
Michelin lists the Commander III Touring in its U.S. touring range. It is a candidate for touring applications when its exact specifications match the bike. See Michelin’s touring tire range.
Rank #3
- The MICHELIN tire for all types of cruisers, offering more longevity without compromising stability and handling.
- Proven Longevity - The benchmark in longevity – commissioned third-party tests show that the MICHELIN Commander II rear tire lasts almost twice as long as its main competitors.*
- No Compromise on Stability and Manuverability - Thanks to its high-density and therefore stiffer frame (MICHELIN Amplified Density Technology), MICHELIN Commander II features premium handling and responsiveness. The top layers in rear tires are made of aramid fibers, which combine resistance and a lightweight feel for perfect stability, even at high speeds.
- Excellent Grip on Wet Surfaces - A brand new longitudinal tread provides outstanding water evacuation, and thus excellent grip on wet surfaces.
- Commissioned third party tests conducted in 2011 on public roads comparing MICHELIN Commander II tires, Metzeler ME880, and Dunlop D407/D408 tires in sizes 130/80B17 and 180/65B16. Individual results may vary depending on motorcycle type and operating conditions.
Bridgestone Battlecruise H50
The Battlecruise H50 is listed in Bridgestone’s model catalog. Check its approved sizes and ratings against the motorcycle’s requirements before purchase. See Bridgestone’s model catalog.
Pirelli Angel GT
The Angel GT also appears among the touring candidates because Pirelli positions the Angel family in that category. Its suitability still depends on bike-specific fitment. See Pirelli’s touring catalog.
Adventure and mixed-surface tires
Adventure tires span different balances of paved-road and off-road use. Pick according to the surfaces you actually ride, then verify the approved tire size and ratings; a category label alone does not establish how a model will suit your motorcycle or route.

Michelin Anakee Adventure 2, Anakee Road, Anakee Adventure, and Anakee Wild
Michelin’s U.S. adventure catalog includes these four named candidates. They belong to the same broad adventure category, but that does not make them interchangeable or establish identical road/off-road emphasis. Compare the manufacturer’s exact model details and fitment for your bike. See Michelin’s adventure tire catalog.
Pirelli Scorpion Trail III
Pirelli’s touring catalog describes the Scorpion Trail III in an adventure/touring context. Consider it when that positioning matches your use and the exact size and ratings are approved for your motorcycle. See Pirelli’s touring catalog.
Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A41
Bridgestone lists the Battlax Adventure A41 in its model catalog. Confirm the precise fitment and ratings for your bike rather than relying on the model name alone. See Bridgestone’s model catalog.

- Bridgestone Battlax RS12 and S23: sport models in Bridgestone’s catalog. See Bridgestone’s model catalog.
Fitment and care checks before and after buying
Confirm size and ratings
Use the owner’s manual or motorcycle maker’s fitment information for the approved tire size and minimum load and speed ratings. Michelin advises that the load rating cover the bike’s maximum load and that the replacement tire’s speed rating meet or exceed the required rating. Its marking guide also notes that same-size alternatives may change handling when the original tire had model-specific approval.
Set pressure from the motorcycle maker’s recommendation
Check pressure when the tires are cold and use the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended road pressure, typically found in the manual or on the vehicle information plate. Do not use the tire sidewall maximum as the riding-pressure target. Michelin’s motorcycle tire tips cover pressure and care.
Have tires mounted professionally and break them in gently
Bridgestone says motorcycle tires should be mounted by specially trained people. Its maximum 57 PSI guidance applies to seating the bead during mounting, not to operating pressure for riding; after mounting, inflate to the vehicle maker’s recommended pressure. Bridgestone also advises avoiding sudden acceleration, maximum braking, and hard cornering for the first 100 miles on new tires. Read Bridgestone’s safety guidance.
Replace worn or damaged tires
Replace a tire when tread reaches its wear indicators or when it has structural damage. Michelin recommends replacement ten years after manufacture regardless of remaining tread, and annual professional inspection after five years of use. These are Michelin’s care recommendations, not a statement of a universal legal rule. See Michelin’s motorcycle tire advice.
