10 memorable Christmas car commercials
The list is curated rather than ranked: each pick has a different reason to stick, from a family reunion to a child’s elaborate plan to help Santa.
1. “Over the Years” — Lexus (2025)

2. “Letter” — Lexus (2024)
A family works together to help a girl get her letter to the North Pole. The Lexus NX’s Intelligent Assistant helps her call an uncle, and the relay brings in an RX and GX. The vehicle is part of the family’s playful teamwork, rather than simply a gift reveal. Lexus’s 2024 campaign announcement.

Why the Lexus red bow became a holiday-ad shorthand
Lexus says its “December to Remember” campaign began in 1999 and became associated with a signature jingle, oversized red bows, and gift-giving stories. The company marked the campaign’s 25th year in 2024; those dates are Lexus’s own account of its campaign history, not independent measures of its effect on audiences. That recurring visual gives the ads an instantly recognizable device, but the stories do not all use the car in the same way: sometimes it is the present, sometimes a means of helping, and sometimes it sits within a larger family story. Lexus vice president of marketing Lisa Materazzo described the company’s approach in 2019 as focusing on “the holidays and the joyful, human moments that create special memories.” That is Lexus’s explanation of its own creative strategy, not neutral industry analysis. Lexus’s 2019 campaign history.
Other holiday car-ad traditions: Toyota and Honda
Lexus is prominent in this selection because its campaign announcements provide detailed descriptions of several story-driven commercials; this is not an exhaustive history of holiday automotive advertising.
- Toyota: Toyota’s 2017 Toyotathon announcement described a 100-second holiday commercial built around a multigenerational family. Its 2024 holiday campaign included “Real Reward,” about a couple finding a lost dog while shopping for a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Toyota’s 2017 announcement and Toyota’s 2024 campaign announcement.
- Honda: “Happy Honda Days” is another recognizable seasonal campaign. Honda’s 2012 newsroom announcement described humorous thank-you letters from shoppers and loved ones; its 2018 announcement described a nostalgic classic-toy approach featuring properties including Voltron, Care Bears, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Those descriptions are campaign context, not a detailed evaluation of the commercials. Honda’s 2012 announcement and Honda’s 2018 announcement.
What makes these Christmas car commercials memorable?
The strongest distinction is the story each ad chooses to tell. “Over the Years” and “Time Machine” place family change or reunion at the center; “Wonderland” and “Sled Dogs” make the vehicle part of helping others; “Runway” and “Overnight Lexus” build around a child’s imaginative idea; “Forgery” and “The Excitement of Giving” lean into comedy. The Christmas setting connects them, but the vehicle’s role and the people driving the plot give each its own character.

Are these the latest Christmas car commercials?
