The 2024 Rivian R1S Dual Max has the highest listed range among the SUVs in this comparison: up to 400 miles on a charge. That figure applies to the Dual Max configuration, not every R1S. The other leading SUVs in the U.S. Department of Energy’s model-year guide top out between 304 and 339 miles.
How this 2024 range comparison works
The figures below use the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) guide to model-year 2024 all-electric vehicles. Each entry shows the highest listed range for that model and names the configuration associated with it where the guide identifies one. “Up to” matters: a model’s lower-range configurations may have materially different ratings.
This is a historical U.S. model-year comparison, not a list of what is currently available. The AFDC guide groups multiple configurations for some models. The figures are rated/model-year data, not promises of how far a vehicle will travel in particular weather, at a particular speed, or with a given load or terrain.
10 long-range electric SUVs for 2024

| 3 | Tesla Model X | Up to 335 miles |
| 4 | Chevrolet Blazer EV RWD | 324 miles |
| 5 | Ford Mustang Mach-E, range-leading configuration | Up to 320 miles |
| 6 | Tesla Model Y, range-leading configuration | Up to 320 miles |
| 7 | Cadillac Lyriq RWD | 314 miles |
| 8 (tie) | BMW iX xDrive50 | 307 miles |
| 8 (tie) | Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ SUV | 307 miles |
| 10 | Kia EV9 Long Range RWD | 304 miles |
Range figures and configuration names are from the AFDC model-year 2024 guide. Its data was downloaded May 5, 2026; that download date does not make these current-model-year ratings. The Ford and Tesla entries are identified by their maximum listed range because the guide’s summarized data cited here does not specify a range-leading trim name.

What the leading ranges mean for a buyer
Rivian R1S Dual Max: the highest listed figure
The AFDC guide lists the R1S Dual Max at 355–400 miles, while the R1S Dual is listed at 255–352 miles. The 400-mile headline is therefore specific to the Dual Max; it should not be read as the range of every R1S configuration.
Mercedes-Benz and Tesla follow
The EQS 450+ SUV is listed at 339 miles, and the Model X reaches up to 335 miles in the guide. These are the next-highest entries in this SUV comparison.
Rank #2
- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
Several models reach the low 300s
The Blazer EV RWD is listed at 324 miles. The Mustang Mach-E and Model Y each reach up to 320 miles, followed by the Lyriq RWD at 314 miles. The BMW iX xDrive50 and EQE 350+ SUV are tied at 307 miles, and the EV9 Long Range RWD is listed at 304 miles.
How these ratings compare with the 2024 EV median
The U.S. Department of Energy reported a median range of 283 miles per charge for all-electric vehicles in model year 2024, up 13 miles from the prior model year. That statistic covers EVs generally, not SUVs alone. Every vehicle in this ten-entry SUV comparison has a higher listed maximum than that all-EV median; it is not a claim that every configuration of each model exceeds 283 miles. Rated range is not a trip guarantee
A rating gives a consistent model-year reference, but the figures cited here do not quantify how a specific vehicle will perform at highway speed, in cold weather, on hilly roads, or under heavy passenger and cargo loads. For a long trip, use the specific configuration’s rating as one planning input and check charging stops along the route rather than treating the maximum figure as a guaranteed distance between charges.
Why range matters to EV shoppers
In a Cars.com survey reported in 2024, 68% of EV shoppers said range was a big factor in which EVs they considered, and 63% of EV owners said it was a big factor in their purchase decision. These are figures reported by Cars.com, not a universal measure of all buyers. Its December 2024 roundup also lists the R1S at 400 miles, the EQS SUV at 339, and the Model X at 335, while warning that range varies substantially by trim. Cars.com’s broader roundup includes vehicles beyond SUVs, so it is supporting context rather than the basis for this SUV-only ranking. Cars.com: Electric Cars With the Longest Range for 2024.

Why the Lucid Gravity is not on this 2024 list
Lucid’s 2023 Gravity announcement described projected range in excess of 440 miles, but that was a projection, not a final EPA-certified 2024 SUV range result. It is not directly comparable with the model-year ratings above and is not included in the ranking. Lucid: Introducing the Lucid Gravity.
