The available price evidence supports a shortlist of candidates—not ten cars with comparable, current prices in one market. The figures below come from different countries and publication dates, so use them as context, then check local listings and budget for a specialist inspection and repairs.
What “affordable” means for a used V12
There is no single cheapest V12 to buy or maintain established by the available evidence. Prices depend on country, condition, body style and specification, while deferred maintenance can quickly erase an apparent bargain. A fair comparison starts with cars for sale in the same market at the same time, then weighs service records and likely upkeep alongside the asking price.
The price indications below are not directly comparable: they combine German market analysis, European examples and a UK guide published at different times. In particular, the older German figures should not be treated as current valuations.

This is a shortlist, not a ranked list of ten verified bargains. Some candidates have useful published price indications; others are included because they are relevant V12 models, but the cited material does not establish a current used price for them.

That is the publication’s market snapshot, not a guaranteed current price. The XJS is a grand tourer, so check that its condition and upkeep suit your budget before focusing on the purchase figure. The same April 2025 feature put convertibles from €20,000. This separate body style carries a higher starting indication in that source; compare like-for-like cars and verify the roof and overall condition during inspection. Gocar.be

Mercedes-Benz 600 SL (R129)
The 6.0-litre R129 600 SL is a V12 roadster; Gocar.be describes its 394 hp engine and five-speed automatic. AUTO BILD KLASSIK found comparable-condition examples a few hundred euros cheaper than V8 variants in its German analysis, but did not provide a current universal price. Aston Martin DB7 Vantage coupe
Auto Express’s September 2026 UK buyer guide estimates £22,000–£35,000 for a V12 Vantage coupe. The guide says V12 DB7s cost £3,000–£5,000 more than six-cylinder versions, and warns that the V12 costs more to run than its six-cylinder counterpart. Another locally available V12 in your budget
The evidence does not support naming a tenth model as a currently price-qualified affordable car. Rather than pad the shortlist with a costly exotic or mislabel a W12 as a V12, search your own market for V12 listings that fit your budget, then verify the engine, variant and service history. No current price for an additional model is established by the sources cited here.
How to judge whether a V12 is a bargain
Compare cars in one market
Use contemporaneous listings in the country where you intend to buy. The German indications from AUTO BILD KLASSIK, the European XJS figures from Gocar.be and the UK DB7 estimates from Auto Express reflect different snapshots; converting currencies does not make them a like-for-like comparison.
Put condition and records ahead of the lowest asking price
Look for a coherent maintenance history and have the car inspected by someone familiar with the model. Auto Express recommends an inspection for a privately bought DB7 and flags corrosion concerns. For that model, its guide specifically identifies the jacking points, radius-arm mountings, front bulkhead, scuttle and air-conditioning drains, and water ingress that can rot the floorpans. It also says the DB7 V12 requires OAT coolant; do not assume that model-specific requirement applies to other cars. Auto Express

AUTO BILD KLASSIK warns that deferred work and upkeep can negate the low entry price of older V12s. Auto Express says DB7 V12 running costs exceed those of the six-cylinder version and that parts can be difficult to source and expensive. Verify the exact variant and intended use
Check the engine, trim, year, body style and transmission against the car’s documents and inspection. The DB7 was sold with both an inline-six and a V12; the R129 600 SL and S600 are different Mercedes models. Also choose for the kind of driving you want: a spacious executive sedan, an open-top roadster and a long-distance GT are not interchangeable ownership propositions.
