For shoppers balancing upfront price against rated driving distance, the strongest figures in this U.S. snapshot are the Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD at $34,995 and 319 EPA miles, and the Tesla Model 3 Standard at $36,990 and 321 miles. The Nissan LEAF S+ stands out below $30,000 with 303 miles. These are starting-MSRP and range figures from a market comparison updated September 30, 2026—not guaranteed transaction prices or promises of real-world distance.

How to read this price-and-range comparison

The list below uses ElectricCompare’s U.S. snapshot of new battery-electric vehicles, updated September 30, 2026. Its prices are starting MSRPs and its range figures are EPA miles; the page ranks vehicles by starting MSRP. It is one third-party comparison, not ten independently verified manufacturer quotes. Prices and availability can change.

To make the trade-off easier to scan, the table adds a rough starting-MSRP-per-EPA-mile calculation. It is only a ratio of the two listed figures: it does not measure efficiency, total ownership cost, incentives, resale value, charging time, insurance, or utility. Lower is not automatically better for a buyer whose needs call for a particular body style, drivetrain, or space.

Vehicle and listed trim Starting MSRP EPA range Rough MSRP per EPA mile What to weigh
Chevrolet Bolt LT $27,600 262 mi About $105 Lowest starting price in this ten-vehicle list; compact-car format.
Kia EV3 Light FWD $29,890 221 mi About $135 Near-$30,000 entry price, with less listed range than several costlier choices.
Nissan LEAF S+ $29,990 303 mi About $99 Notable listed price-and-range combination; Nissan separately announced the same MSRP and up to 303 miles for the 2026 S+.
Toyota bZ XLE FWD $34,980 236 mi About $148 Crossover format; its listed range is below several entries in this price group.
Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD $34,995 319 mi About $110 Long listed range for a mainstream crossover starting price.
Subaru Uncharted Premium FWD $34,995 308 mi About $114 Crossover option with a relatively high listed range at its starting price.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Standard Range $35,250 245 mi About $144 These figures apply to the Standard Range trim, not longer-range Ioniq 5 versions.
Fiat 500e Pop $35,700 149 mi About $240 Short-range, city-focused choice—not an equivalent road-trip substitute for the longer-range entries.
Tesla Model 3 Standard $36,990 321 mi About $115 Sedan with the highest listed range among these ten.
Toyota C-HR SE AWD $37,080 287 mi About $129 AWD crossover; weigh the drivetrain configuration against its price and range.

Which affordable EV offers the most range for its listed price?

Best listed range below $30,000: Nissan LEAF S+

The LEAF S+ is listed at $29,990 with 303 EPA miles, a notably strong pairing among the entries near $30,000. Nissan’s August 19, 2025 announcement independently gives the 2026 LEAF S+ a $29,990 U.S. MSRP and range of up to 303 miles. Nissan also says the 2026 LEAF is NACS-compatible and can access more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers; check current network access terms and route coverage before relying on that claim for a particular trip. See Nissan’s 2026 LEAF announcement.

Long-range crossover value: Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD

At $34,995 and 319 listed EPA miles, the Equinox EV LT1 FWD combines crossover format with a long rating in this group. Trim and drivetrain matter: the table’s figures are specifically for the LT1 front-wheel-drive entry, not every Equinox EV configuration.

Longest listed range: Tesla Model 3 Standard

The Model 3 Standard has the highest listed range in this selection at 321 miles, paired with a $36,990 starting MSRP. It is a sedan rather than a crossover, so the range figure alone cannot determine whether it fits a buyer’s passenger, cargo, or access needs.

Lowest starting price: Chevrolet Bolt LT

The Bolt LT’s $27,600 listed starting MSRP is the lowest in the ten, while its 262-mile rating is not the shortest. Buyers prioritizing the smallest entry price may find it compelling, but should compare the exact available trim and vehicle layout with their space and driving needs.

Why the EPA number may not match your driving

An EPA estimate provides a consistent rating, not a guarantee of distance on every route. Speed, temperature, driving conditions, and vehicle configuration affect what a driver can achieve. The exact trim matters: battery, drivetrain, and wheel choices can change both price and range within the same model line. Confirm the specific vehicle’s EPA label and manufacturer trim details rather than assuming that a model name has one universal range.

For context, the EPA’s February 2026 Automotive Trends Report puts the average range of new battery-electric vehicles for model year 2024 at 292 miles. That industry average is not a benchmark for the individual 2026-listed trims above. The report also distinguishes battery-electric vehicles from plug-in hybrids, whose charge-depleting range can include small amounts of gasoline-engine use in some vehicles. This comparison is limited to BEVs. Read the EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report.

Starting MSRP is not your final price

The listed MSRP does not reconcile destination charges, taxes, dealer discounts, financing, or buyer-specific incentives. Incentives may reduce a buyer’s out-the-door cost, but eligibility and available amounts depend on the buyer and current rules; do not treat an advertised starting price as a guaranteed deal. Check the live manufacturer trim page, dealer quote, and applicable incentives for your location before comparing final purchase costs.

For a historical reference only, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center lists the model-year 2025 Equinox EV FWD at 319 miles and a $33,600 base MSRP, and the MY2025 Fiat 500e at 141–149 miles and $32,500. These are MY2025 figures, not the September 2026 snapshot prices in the table. The DOE AFDC model-year 2025 vehicle table includes official model-year data; the EPA also notes that some values in its automotive-trends data portal are preliminary.

How to choose among the ten

  • For the lowest listed entry price: start with the Chevrolet Bolt LT, then decide whether its compact format suits your everyday use.
  • For a sub-$30,000 starting point and substantial rated range: compare the Nissan LEAF S+ closely, including charging access for your home and regular routes.
  • For crossover utility and longer listed range: compare the Equinox EV LT1 FWD and Subaru Uncharted Premium FWD, then check their exact cargo, seating, and equipment details.
  • For the longest listed EPA range: consider the Model 3 Standard if a sedan works for your passenger and cargo needs.
  • If AWD is a priority: the Toyota C-HR SE AWD is the AWD entry in this list; compare the value of that configuration against its listed range and price.
  • For primarily short urban trips: the Fiat 500e Pop’s 149-mile rating may be enough, but its range makes it a different use case from the longer-range cars.

Plan charging around your actual routine

Whether home charging is practical depends on your parking and electrical setup; public-charging access matters more when home charging is unavailable or your regular routes require it. A Level 2 home charger may be useful, but it is not included in these vehicle prices and is not required for every buyer. Confirm vehicle compatibility and have installation needs assessed for the specific home. ENERGY STAR and EPA provide EV and charger information.
